terribly impressionable

this week in PA, watch-along club focuses on Prima's... assets and we celebrate Ash's birthday.

So you know, once I get interested in something... I get really into it. I will generally start a series from the very beginning with the intent of watching everything that is available. Preferably in chronological order, but that's not really a plausible option sometimes. Doctor Who (1963 - present). 8 Out Of 10 Cats. Top Gear. Gravity Falls. Adventure Time. Pokémon. RvB. etc. Doesn't matter how much content there is, my intent will inevitably be to find and watch everything. Or read everything! Like Discworld.

But the thing is, I am apparently very impressionable. When I was younger I desperately wanted to be the characters I so adored, live in the worlds I explored through exposure to various media. Now, though, something happens and I want to emulate people rather than characters. Depending on what I'm absorbing a lot of, I want to be an actor, screenwriter, digital artist, author, animator, voice actor, producer, sound editor, part of a film crew. I don't even know. I guess I'd just like to be involved in making something for other people to enjoy. It's really annoying though because I have no way of doing any of that really. It's all just vague wishes that increase in intensity as I am exposed to related things.

So yeah. Super impressionable. And I just finished getting completely caught up on RvB. That's an incredibly well-done show. And yeah, I would like to be a voice actor right now.

I just don't really have a place to begin. I'm stage-shy and technologically incompetent and have zero experience with anything and no way to get any. :|

You're so much like me. When I get into something, I dig deep, and I liked to emulate everything I liked as a kid, especially after movies. I mean, it's normal for kids to be really into a movie they enjoyed right after leaving the theatre, but I would harp on and on and on about it for months. After seeing Spirit, I pretended to be a horse all the time. .__. Don't ask about my first Star Wars movie btw. lol

Anyway, I wish I knew where you could start in voice acting, but I don't. :( But I want you to pursue what you find interesting and enjoyable and you know you'll have my support no matter what! <3

Regular acting and putting up a voice acting "portfolio" which consists of you either saying stuff for a "commercial" or different voices. Offering to volunteer after that's done to school animation course to help kids with their films.

Pick up any digital camera with a video mode, take some footage, download a trial of Adobe After Effects/ Premiere, or even Window's Movie Maker.. and start playing around.

Same for animation. You can take an online animation course like animation mentor.. or you can download some programs (Maya for 3D, or Flipbook for 2D) and go places like CG hub or 11 Second Club for resources, tools, free characters to animate with, and tutorials.

Normally companies like Adobe dont mind if you're using a ripped version as long as you're not profit-ing from it. You can also get educational versions but those will give you a watermark on your work.

Just get as much info as you can and start on it. A lot of companies give tours to students or they will offer internships too.
They're all VERY different fields, though. Someone who's in sound editing for example, may have taken music and composing in Uni, or even sound -engineering- so dabble now when you have the time and make your choice!

    Good luck!
