Basically just my little ramblings and such. .u.
Hair school rant omg OMG.
It feels like forever since I've actually been on.
Well, for some time now hair school has been uber.............time consuming. Like, let those 10+ "dot dot dot"s sink that in better for you. Like, omfg. Hair school has been cray-cray lately.
So now I'm on the floor. Which means I am now taking clients at my own station. Doing cutting, color, and styling. It's really fun working with real people, and most of my clients have been really awesome!
However, some are awful. And Imma rant about them nao. ty
First of all, is my client from about two days ago, on Thursday, June 20th. She came in already in an awful attitude and grim look on life, I guess. The last few times she booked an appointment, her stylist canceled on her which, yes, I've been through it, is infuriating, because then you're waiting for God knows how long until someone has a chance to take you if that's even possible. So of course, this time she came, everything was compensated which means she was getting a free service, a way for us to apologize for the last two times. Well, my friend had the client on her books (schedule) and had another client (who requested my friend) at 12. The services the angry client wanted were not going to be done in three hours. It was a half-head highlight (where you only highlight a portion of the head(1 hour and 30 minute process to apply and remove highlights)), deep conditioning repair treatment (20 minutes with a protein mask for the hair), hair cut (about 30-45 minutes), and hot styling (flat iron(30-45 minutes)). Apparently, when we told her, "We will take out the highlights at 10:30", which we did, SHE heard, "You'll be done and ready to go at 10:30." So AFTER ten thirty, she became really crappy with me and my friend (I was assisting my friend with applying the highlights, conditioning treatment, and the toner(a toner is an application of color after a highlight, to remove unwanted tones such as reds, golds, and copper, usually made up of a desired blonde or brown color, with a purple, green, or blue tone to counteract with the unwanted tones in order to neutralize them)). The toner has to sit for about 5 minutes. They work extremely fast, and even before and during the service, she had given me a very nasty attitude. So my friend and I legit did 50/50. Once we were done and free of her crappy attitude, she gave my friend the tip to split between us. The client said, "I want you to have more." Which is highly understandable. My friend was her original stylist, and really took charge of the service, we just split the work. So the client then said, "I want you to take $15." Again, awesome tip and understandable, leaving us both to think she made a fair tip of giving my friend $15, and me $10. Nope. She gave me $4. Just $4. Now, ok fine, our services are cheap and so are our clients, but that's some shady shay right there. Like, why only give me 4? She gave me a nasty attitude the entire time, even after me trying to cater to everything she needed such as water, magazines, etc, and she was still gross to me. Like, my friend had a client at 12. My friend didn't finish the haircut until 12:45. I offered to take over the haircut at 12 so my friend could attend to her other client, and the client who was getting cut very rudely said, "You are NOT cutting my hair" with this disgusted look on her face. UGH.
SO TODAY. My client was very sweet, but the past few days have been awful timing wise. Color is my thing. My formulations and clenliness with it all has been something my instructors have praised since day one, and I thank my mentor back home I interned under for three years to thank for that. Color is extremely ueasy for me, and my teachers have always said I have been fairly advanced with what I can do with it, toners, full head highlights, half-heads, all over colors, you name it, I can do it pretty well (not to toot my own horn but I'm proud of it). But for some reason, my speed has gotten slower and slower. Today, it took my 3+ hours to do a half-head highlight with color inbetween the foils. Yes, it is tedious and you have to take extra time and care with that as to not to get color on the highlighted roots, but it should never take me more than an hour and a half, and it never has. Today was just weird, and I could tell my client was irritated by how long it took, though she really was too sweet to not say anything about it. She was nice, but I felt awful about keeping her there for so long, and then I messed up on the toner. Idk. Today bummed me out
TL;DR, DON'T BECOME A HIARSTYLIST
MY RANT IS OVER.
