Where does the time go?
6 years ago today, I was promoted for the first time in Diamond/Pearl and WiFi. I also recently celebrated my original account's 7th anniversary. I've been active on one website for one third of my life, wow. I just can't imagine... not being here. I've made so many friends over the years, touched the lives of sooo many more, even those folks passing through the forum with every new generation of Pokemon. Yeah, I've seen friends at their beginning stages, their peaks, their departures...
Often, I wondered why I continued to post about a kid's game or trade for the same Pokemon over and over again. Why am I still here? In 2011, a novice trader once sent me a thank-you message for helping him know the ins and outs of a Pokemon's OT, of all things (I guarantee you, the OT is important in the trade section!). I admitted that maybe I knew too much about Pokemon trading and that I should likely, how does one say it so eloquently, "get a life"etc, but he shared a quote with me: "The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time."
It struck a chord within me, and I stopped worrying about what others or my parents thought about me being so engrossed in a website. As long as I wasn't destructive to myself nor obstructive to others, I'd continue to post and trade as I saw fit. As long as I took care of my education and other responsibilities, also never going back to the mental state I was in when I left the staff the first time for low grades, I kept doing what I enjoyed.
Every week here, I was meeting someone new, brightening the day of strangers, and learning a bit about myself. It's the culmination of those 6 or 7 years here that I understand myself 100 times better than how I did at age 14 and 15. God, I feel so old! Where does the time go? I'll be graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration in less than 5 months! I remember posting here saying one day I'll get a part-time job to pay for some bills and such, and now I have one!
It's all something I'll never truly be able to explain to someone in real life, but my experience here is important to me. For that, I thank you all for having me; it's been a pleasure.
And with that... I've started a new chapter here by actually changing my alias.
