Here's something I just don't get...

Why do some people believe that Pokémon is getting worse each generation? I'm asking this because I have a college classmate who believes that only Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow are the best games and that Black/White are the worst games. He states this as a fact, not an opinion.

Can anyone here help me convince him that Pokémon just keeps getting better and better each generation?

No one can help you. There is no convincing him.

I would think explaining that they fixed all the problems with RBY would be a good place to start. You know, the unbalanced type matchups and so on.

You can't. There are those people who will wear those nostalgia goggles and never take them off until the bitter end. It's just one of those fights that you just can't win because of subjective opinion. Each and every perosn would have their own perspective, and if their perspective is that Pokemon is getting worse every generation, then so be it.

I mean, I'm more of a "don't knock it until you try it" kind of person, but I really can't argue with someone who's still lives in the first gen area, that's just not exactly possible. I suppose you could get them to try out the B/W games and see how he reacts, but seeing how B/W aren't exactly the best games around, it might be better if you recommend something like X/Y, since it seems to be something promising.

Just my two cents.

B/W IS the worst though.

No way in hell that Pokemon is getting better. The series peaked with Gen 2 and 3. After that, it's all going downhill.

EDIT: X/Y also doesn't look anything special. Overworld is ugly as hell, 3D battles are gonna slow the pace completely and the models are awful. Unless the region design and exploration are solid enough, I can see it being even worse than B/W.

I kind of agree. B/W I found (for me personally) to be horrible games. B2W2 on the other hand I really really enjoyed, so I suppose Gen 5 balances out to be just above average for me. X and Y look interesting, but the overworld and the general look of the game, while unique, is quite...cheap; like PBR cheap. ;;

Because it is PBR cheap. All the models, except for Gen 6 Pokemon (which are the only ones that look good), are ported to the game. That's why it's awful.

In this blog, we write off games before we try them.
This mentality needs to die honestly. What do you expect us to do? Buy an expensive game just for the sake of trying it out? If I don't like the looks of it then it's only natural I won't try it out and write it off. (with valid criticism, mind you.)

I beat B/W, for your record. Only thing it has going for it is the pacing which is why I bothered to finish it to begin with. (I haven't tried B/W2 though which is why I don't say much about it but the region being the same alone is enough to make me stay away.) And I am gonna try X/Y because I know my brother is gonna get it being the fanboy that he is. I'm just disappointed we get a talent like Game Freak (see: Harmo Knight, which looks absolutely fantastic.) wasted on milking a franchise that's getting worse and stale at this point. And this isn't nostalgia speaking, since I played G/S/C AFTER D/P/Pt. (I also prefer Platinum over G/S/C, but they're better games, really.)

I just want games like this again:

And luckily Harmo Knight is the closest thing to it.
