MotM Scouting Committee

Here's a post I made a few months back; I just realized it would make an interesting blog topic.

I've noticed that the same few people are constantly being recycled in the MotM contests. Seems a bit unfair for the people that don't use PC as a their substitute MySpace/Facebook/Twitter, and actually focus on contributing.

By allowing people to freely place votes for whoever they feel like and not having designated candidates, you can and will see that the same people consistently appear in the results.

I recommend that a scouting committee be formed, a group of people who go through the forums looking for candidates for each category. Then when the MotM comes around, the OP posts the candidates that have been recognized. It may take more effort (and this post will probably be ignored), but at least this way, the contests won't always/only be "friends voting for friends".

Now I can understand a limited category, like Moderators. But when each post nominates the same 7-person pool [just shuffled around], does this make the current system a failure?

Discuss.

Here's a sad fact of life: Popular people always win. The same people will forever win MotM categories no matter what we do. :<

This makes no sense. It's not the fault of the people who are constantly voted for that they're... well being voted for. The same people who voted last month are voting this month, and contrarily the people that didn't vote last month are likely still not voting this month. To expect everyone's entire MoTM form to change drastically is absurd. Telling people who their 'favorite male' or who the 'best graphics artist' is kills the entire purpose of the contests. It's not our favorite if we're picking from a preordained list.

;_; It's so hard to read...

I don't really look around the member of the month stuff, but that is a little unfair. But, they do have all that popularity for a reason and I would assume you would not want to be member of the month if you didn't want to be popular.

So...Uhm, I'm saying it's really a circle. To be nominated as a member of the month you'd have to be popular period, so there is no way to eliminate the popular people from showing up every time.

Add:
Gummy says it different and better than I can. To be voted for is to be popular, so you'd be missing the point if you complained about people showing up all the time.

Okay, well, first things first. You're blog is so futzing hard to read; why are you making people put in effort to read your blog? I mean, if it hadn't caught my attention with MOTM, I wouldn't have wasted my time reading it. However, you obviously haven't learned the fact that life isn't fair. There will ALWAYS be those kind of people out there and honestly, there isn't anything you can do about it. I haven't looked at Member of the Month, but I do notice what you're saying; just deal with it. Don't believe everything you read in movies; the underdog won't always win. To state the obviously, Member of the Month deals with popularity and honestly, doing something like this will not help you obtain this state. Be that as it may, there will always be ignorant people who feel that they have to win everything and be that knight in shining armor who is always right. Honestly, the best thing to do is to blow them off and let them bask in their over-inflated ego until it blows up in their faces. So, just let them be; sooner or later, they'll be the ones complaining that they have no friends and you'll just be glad you didn't instigate anything.

So, in my honest opinion, I'd say just drop it. If you're going to try and go for Member of the Month, you'll develop an ego when you win. It's like getting promoted; I think a few new moderators can verify this. So, just let it go and get on with whatever life you have.

Oh , I read it; I was just flaming white on white text. >:C

Why don't you take our 'auto-flames' into context and read what we're trying to say; it won't be any good. Popular people will always win.

White on white? Is the transparency not showing up on your side? It should be white text on a dark gray/blue background.

No it isn't. ;~;

I've got to highlight everything. Anyways, not trying to be rude, but unfortunately that how life goes; I learned the hard way.

Hmm... That's a bit odd.

It should look like this:

Maybe your browser doesn't support transparent PNGs?

It doesn't work for me either...but seeing as how you can click "hide user customizations" it doesn't really matter.

Anyway, my opinion on this is so-so. The only categories that annoy me are the 'talent' ones because people who don't even visit the relevant sections just vote for their friends. I mean, I don't visit the hacking section, so I don't vote for best hacker. Seriously, one guy won best writer/roleplayer even though he hadn't even posted in eiter section in nearly two months. Er, what?

K, I noticed you mentioned me in your DCC post. While I have no opinion on whether the system should be changed or not (because, tbh, I don't really care) I did want to say this.

Yeah, it's nice that my friends are voting for me, but I'm equally happy when they just tell me that they love me over MSN. 8D

It shouldn't be taken too seriously, I know that I don't care if I 'win' or not; in the end it's just a little contest on a Pokemon forum that some people choose to participate in for fun. Yeah it's usually the same people that get the most votes, but in a way everyone who receives at least one vote is a winner.

You shouldn't stop voting just because you know those people that you vote for won't win. I know that if I only recieved one vote from one person, then it would make me feel happy that somebody, somewhere took the time to think of me.
So keep voting for who you think deserves it and I'm sure they'll be grateful for those votes, whether they 'win' or not.
