The Pokémon Government

This blog entry is my take on the Pokémon world's government in the main series of Pokémon games.

All the regions we have visited thus far fall under one National PokéDex, which would mean that they are all one giant nation despite their distance from each other. To have such a huge country raises other questions: namely, how large is the "Pokémon planet," and how many other nations are there?

One option is that all regions are controlled by one nation, similar to certain political conspiracy theories and futuristic dystopia novels (without, of course, the dystopia...or so we think). I could continue down this path and start creating baseless theories about how all Pokémon are brainwashed into thinking that they enjoy battling, but I won't, and my reason being is (besides the fact that those theories are, again, baseless) Looker.

Yes, Looker. The dashing addition to Pokémon Platinum, and the man responsible for the capture of all but one of the Seven Sages of Team Plasma (with your kind help, of course).
Looker said:
I am a globe-trotting elite of the International Police. My name... Ah, no, I shall inform you of my code name only. My code name, it is Looker. It is how I am called!

Looker is the reason why I cannot continue with the argument that there is only one nation in the Pokémon world. InterPol could not exist if there was only one nation. There is a mysterious member of the "Global Police" in Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, FireRed, and LeafGreen, but just "Global Police" does not tell us about how many nations could be on the globe. InterPol tells us that there is at least one other nation on this planet, and the term is used in both Platinum and Black and White, so it was decided on for a reason.

So this leads me to ask, since we know the distance between known regions is vast, will we ever see another nation in a main series Pokémon game? And exactly how large is this planet that the games are set on? It may seem crazy, but we could see a future game with two National PokéDexes, if this subject is ever expanded upon!

I believe that we will see this happen one day; whenever a new game introduces new Pokémon they will be added to a separate National PokéDex, and the player will be rewarded for completing each. Also, more nations equates to more (complex and mature) plot opportunities! Granted, at this point we do not have enough information to know exactly how it will play out.

I never actually stop to think about why the police isn't stepping in to stop the evil teams, but I do like to think that there is some sort of special force looking over the people of the Pokémon world. My own belief is that there are no police forces in each region, but InterPol exists to take care of more major threats around the world (Galactic trying to destroy the universe, Plasma trying to take control of Reshiram and Zekrom).

There is my take on it. What do you think about the government and nation(s) within the main series of Pokémon games? Do you think we will see this subject expanded upon, or do you think it will always remain vague? Do you never give the government system a second thought, or do you create your own stories for it? If so, please share!

If it wasn't for Ash and Co., Officer Jenny would be dead right now ;-;
Thank God she isn't in real life, kids do a better job at protecting the world than she does >_> I like to tell myself that she was only there originally for Brock to crush on, and it became a habit which went on to Best Wishes. :/ (I know that is not the case but I just tell that to myself to get over the fact that she even exists u_u).

My blog post is pertaining to the games only; Jenny appears only in the anime, and it seems they have a different take on the police force when compared to the games.

I think the whole idea of "kids doing a better job than the police force" just sort of trickled down from the games into the anime, lol! xD
