The DSi that almost wasn't

Posted April 9th, 2009 at 11:25 AM by Gummy

For those of you who know me well (or have read my previous blog entries), you would know of my plan to sell some games for store credit so I could afford a DSi. Well, today I decided to put the plan in action, so I ran to the nearest Gamestop with three Xbox 360 games and two DS games. I already had $80 in cash, so I thought that I'd have no trouble getting to $180. In fact, I thought I'd get so much credit I would be able to buy another DS game, or at least a 2GB SD card. So I'm at the counter and the guy finishes all his computer crap and guess what he tell me?

"You have $72 in store credit"

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!?!? COME AGAIN?!?

That's right. I spent a total of $260 on those games, and I couldn't even get $100 in store credit. I proceeded to snatch my games from the cashier's hands and stormed out of the store. I took the bus home battered and beaten. When I got home, found my dad in a particularly good mood (because baseball season has started, apparently) and decided to give the Gummy charm a shot. Amazingly, I was able to convince him to spot me $40 and drop me to a different Gamestop, hoping to get a better deal for my games. So I went through the whole selling process again and still ended up with $72 (as I expected). However, I managed to charm the guy into subscribing me for a new Edge card for like, 2 more dollars, which gave me 10% more on all my sells, and 10% for all my buys (along with that magazine whose name I forget).

Long story short, I got my black DSi, a year-long magazine subscription, and some change (which my dad made me cough up).

    Gahaha, well done Gums. I'm jealous of the DSi, but wouldn't want to go through that myself XD

    Ugh...
    Total waste of money.
    The DSi has terrible features.
    The DS Lite was definitely the best of the DS line.

    The games that I sold were just collecting dust, and my sister's DSLite is almost broken in two. Seeing as how I don't play GBA games, I might as well buy the DSi.

    Selling games back at Gamestop isn't even worth it, I'd say. Unless you're selling a game that you JUST bought (and probably haven't had time to finish), you barely get anything. Then they sell it back to people at twice the price you were paid. It's so pointless.

    You should try selling on eBay or something instead. You'll get more for your games.

    I'd suggest liquidating any games/consoles at sources which would generate more revenue.

    i.e. eBay or Craigslist

    Sending your goods to gamestop or a pawnshop is just asking for it.

    I once was offered $15 at Gamespot for a week old SSBB

    I was like "WTF" and left.

    Always sell your stuff online for better deals, you can get at least half the price you bought a game for from a store

    Gamestop really is skimpy. <_>;

    It's almost depressing what they pay you. ;~;

    But congratulations on the upgrade! I have a feeling, that hacking will be taken to a new level, due to the SD slot. ;D
