I miss enjoying this series. It used to be so much fun with the games, the strategies, the anime, everything, but now... it's not. D: The only reason I took a DLoA/quit (if the lack of interest in Pokémon remains after the 31st) staff recently was because I lost interest in Pokémon so I had nothing to discuss in clubs, I'm losing interest in most of the sections because they're all about Pokémon, and it's just awkward being on a Pokémon forum as a result haha. The 'other' sections are awesome don't get me wrong and the people here are utterly amazing and such fun to be around, but it's a really strange feeling being active on a forum that's dedicated to something you hold very little interest in.

So this is the best time to try and get that spark back! I've got a week or so left with nothing to do, so now it's time for an avalanche of Pokémon games and fandom in hopes of falling in love with the series all over again. Therefore, I have a few questions for you all to answer!
  • What keeps you interested in Pokémon?
  • What part of Pokémon do you find most nostalgic?
  • What games should I play/fandom should I do? :3
Thanks to everyone who takes time to reply, much love n.n <3

I'm actually in the same boat as you Alex, to be honest. But I'll never lose my love for Cresselia & Latias!

Honestly, I'd just stick around & keep in touch with the people who will get you into new things (Since this is a Pokemon forum, so obviously at one point in time everyone here loved Pokemon) & Pokemon will eventually make for an interesting conversation eventually. Black/White 2 isn't out in the USA yet so...we got something worth waiting for maybe? idk lol

^what he said.

But I'll agree with Nica and go for Johto. It's very nostalgic and you'll fall in love with the region again.

Though, roleplaying can get you back in the spark again. Honestly, it keeps me interested in the franchise.

What keeps you interested in Pokémon?
An unhealthy obsession with building teams and collecting a variety of Pokemon for competative battle. XDDDDDD
What part of Pokémon do you find most nostalgic?
The Hoenn region's tropical and beautiful scenery, compared to most other regions.
What games should I play/fandom should I do? :3
gen V, gen III (counting Colosseum and Gale of Darkness), and/or Gen IV.

Honestly, I don't know how to explain what keeps me interested. It's just something that appeals to me greatly. It's interesting, fun, and just exciting! There's so much you can do with the fandom/characters, such as fan fictions or fan comics, creating your own Pokémon characters to use. If the anime seems to anger you with the way they;re writing and producing it (because sometimes I do) then, like I said, you always have fan fictions and such to read whereas people end up giving the characters interesting turns and turning characters meant for children into something you've always wanted them to be. (There's a lot of fan fictions I love reading where they kind of bring back the fact that Ash is the chosen one.)

Also, when the current game I have gets boring to me, since there's usually nothing left to do on it, I always have the next installment in the franchise to look forward to. Not to mention, playing the older games with the nuzlocke challenge or any other challenge you want to do!

Nostalgic-wise? Well, it's just been with me since I was a child; nothing much to say. There was a period where I kind of "forgot" I had the games, then when I found them again, I got back into them and more obsessed with the games. XD That was about seven years ago, too, and even when I was constantly teased in middle school for liking it, I never quit playing it. :)

As for games, why not play Black/White version? Maybe even go back to the old games, starting with the classic generation one games! :D I pre-ordered Black 2, so I'm looking forward to getting that. c: OH, ALSO! Play the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games!! I love those ones to death; favorite spin-off games. I recommend starting with Blue/Red Rescue Team (possibly Blue, since it's for DS and the controls are better) because those are the first of the series, during the generation three era, then play Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, since those are the second games of the series during fourth generation! (They're all for DS, but go with Explorers of Sky, because it's basically the same as to how Platinum is to Diamond/Pearl or how Crystal is to Gold/Silver; the same thing but with nifty features that weren't in the previous two, along with five different Pokémon to start with/partner up with.)

tl;dr I love Pokémon forever and always. <3

Tbh I hate games so that's not why I love Pokémon strangely enough.

And really I can't think of a reason other than Grovyle that I love Pokémon.

I'm really obsessive about stuff so I'll keep on PC even if I'm not into Pokémon tbh.

I suggest just forcing yourself on PC every one in a while every time you have free time. I've tried that many times when I thought I would quit PC, and that has worked for me, at least. i've found what I liked, and I've stuck to that.

All the advice I can give you Ozzcakes, if that doesn't help I dun know what to tell ya ;;

Wowee that's more comments than I expected xD Y'all are awesome n.n <3

@Kura Which games mostly? o3o

@Nica How is Unova nostalgic lmao. But okay, I'll play HG starting tomorrow!

@Sector That takes too long ;; Talk to me about Pokémon!

@Megan Alrighty, looks like I'm definitely playing HG this weekend! n.n I wish I could RP more but no one is replying to the thread *cries* Maybe it's time to join another...

@Taro Gen V was disappointing D: Gen III though, which game...? I'm sure I can juggle two at once so suggest a game and sure :D

@Eeveon Wow. xD I'm not that creative though :( Although fan fictions is a good idea, I never thought about reading those. Any suggestions? o3o And I've played challenges so many times that they're all boring now paha xD I did love the PMD games but that's not really the problem; the game can still be fun without thinking about the fact that it's Pokémon x] But I'll try that for sure, thanks :D Maybe Ranger too :D

@droomph Lmao I'm not leaving the site dude xD I could never leave y'all behind <3 It's just getting back into Pokémon that I'm aiming for :D So I'll have tonnes to talk about it clubs and stuff n.n

What keeps you interested in Pokémon? The cute girls. Most of PC probably knows who tops that list, but some of the NPC's (the Lady from B/W in particular) are also quite appealing. Also the fact that my original character Lisa was created specifically for Pokemon.

Nope, it's not the critters themselves, or the gameplay, or anything like that, it's the girls :P

What part of Pokémon do you find most nostalgic? Once again, the cute girls.

What games should I play/fandom should I do? Platinum, Leaf Green, and XD Gale of Darkness would get my vote.

You're way too old for Pokemon. You should be ashamed for trying to get back to it.

Play men's games.

Nodon'tleavethesiteorwhateveryou'replanningdon'tdoanythingdrasticAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

*ahem*

Okay, so first of all, do a challenge! I found myself getting bored with the games, but nuzlockes are really fun. Also, ditch the starter, and don't use a single pokemon you've used before. Try some of the mini games, like contests. Try breeding?

Pokemon stays interesting because it's always new and exciting to me to use different strategies/pokemon for each playthrough. The beginning of a pokemon game is always the best. Catching your first pokemon, gaining your first badge, it really feels like an adventure!

As for what games, do either the Hoenn or Unova regions, especially if you're not a big fan of Unova. If you start to really enjoy it, then you'll enjoy it even more than a game you've played a ton of times, and hopefully get back on track with your life! Geesh! :D

Okay xD

But girls aside, I'm pretty much in the same situation you are. I haven't been able to enjoy a Pokemon game since Platinum, and what used to keep me hooked on the franchise simply isn't working for me anymore. It's become the same old, same old, coupled with some questionable decisions made by the developers in recent games, that have kicked me off the Pokemon bandwagon.

@spinosaurus

You're an ass. Just sayin'.

And as for getting back into Pokémon, the same applies. Interests ebb, but soon enough you'll find yourself into Pokémon again. If you can make it through the tough times (however long) you can stick to it forever.

I suggest then to dedicate your time specifically to Pokémon forums. Start with 5 posts in a row in Pokémon forums, then 10, then until you start to like Pokémon again. It might be brainwashing, but hey you want to like Pokémon, don't you?

And on the extreme end of the spectrum, check yourself for the signs of depression. Since you want to love Pokémon but can't, that tips me off to the fact that you *might* have depression. Was the same for me, back in May XD but always check with your doctor first, I'm not saying to go chug Prozac :3

So that's pretty much how I see your situation. Might want to extend your DLoA, but do what you want.

Try playing a new Pokemon game, if you haven't played them all! Or maybe a cool hack? I was not really interested in Pokemon a whole lot but then black/white came out and I decided to try it again (ofc its different because it's an entirely new region/pokemon, but still. maybe try a spin off?). also, there was this book series I used to read all the time and RP, but then after I gave away the books I started to become disinterested, maybe because I wasn't really familiar with the books themselves or that I haven't read them in a while, (could be possibilities) but I borrowed my friend's copy and I'm starting to get back into it a little bit, so maybe you just haven't played enough Pokemon? lol. Heartgold <3

Something that keeps me interested most of the time is creating ingame teams, because you don't have to worry about evs/ivs, just movesets and the Pokemon themselves (and natures if you want). I usually catch all six postgame then train them up, and once they become high leveled it's fun to beat everyone ingame (lol) and have a cool team.

@Golurk Loladorable I've done all the challenges loads of times though D: The minigame thing is interesting... I always adored the Pokéathlon, maybe that is worth trying o3o But then there's all the strategy and mechanics and bleh to worry about D: It was much more fun when it was just simple "catch Pokémon and raise them to beat the league" rather than all these mechanics and stuff, it removed all the fun from the games. I think that's my main problem tbh :x But it's impossible to play without thinking about them because I know they there and that my team sucks D: I might try taking your advice though and go for Hoenn - I haven't replayed that in a very long time :3

@droomph Wat... I AM NOT DEPRESSED ;; At least I hope not o3o That's not likely... is it? :s I don't feel depressed so I don't think that's it... I guess with my bunny being sick and uni worries and stuff it's possible I dunno, I guess I might think about it but I doubt that's the case o3o

@Lapras I've played them all x] I do like the hack idea though; the last time I had a lot of fun playing Pokémon was in a hack because it was all new and stuff. But I never finished it :/ And with the ingame teams thing I did used to find that a lot of fun, but then like I said to Golurk, the whole mechanics thing ruins it for me D: It's just impossible to enjoy ingame teams because I know they suck and I won't be able to use them for anything after the game :( How do you get around that?

Alex, I said you're most likely not depressed, but check with your psychologist or something before ruling it out as an option.

And by the way depression is not "sad"; rather it's more like a perpetual boredom.

But please go check ;;

And you are...who? I don't even know you, and you're calling me an ass?

It's not depression, it's only a simple matter if trying to gain back a lost interest. But going too far with that can, and will actually lead to hardship. If you still don't find any fun playing Pokemon, stop immediately, don't force yourself.

You don't have to get back into Pokemon, and right now you shouldn't. It's not as if you can't live without it. Find something else you like to do, or even a new hobby. Do you like drawing? Is there a specific sport you like? Do you like to work out? Cook? Watching TV shows/anime? Playing other video games? Reading novels? Do something that's actually more beneficial for you, instead of forcing yourself to go on a Pokemon forum. (Exactly what you should not do) You might gain your interest of the series back naturally, anyway, and it is pretty likely. What you're doing right now is actually the exact opposite of what you're trying to achieve, as there a higher chance of ending up hating Pokemon in the process.
