Forum styles and history

Posted November 2nd, 2008 at 11:58 PM by Hiroshi Sotomura

Today's been a bit of a silly day. I'm talking about the internet day, since there was nothing to do otherwise. I'm open to queries about what's happening, but that's off the point of this blog post.

Today, in a rare post (for a while) you get to see a piece of PC's styles history.

PC's buttons of old. These were used in EVERY single theme on PC from 2002 and before mid 2003.

That's where I came in, creating the buttons you see in Forest Grovyle's Legendaries, simply because I thought the buttons you see there were ugly. Awesome old theme, by the way.

Though why is the font in the Forest Grovyle's Legendaries button so unfitting? Blame Steve, who told me to use that font. :(

But I got better! To work on a "PokéWorld" theme, based off Pokémon World (pokemon.com) before said website became ugly (because contemporary Pokemon.com's Flash layout is utterly disgusting), Kwesi asked me to work on some prettier buttons.

The result.
(I'm thinking of recreating the Pokémon World style, by the way.)

I actually can't remember whether I was a moderator at the time, but when I became an s-mod, my job was primarily to work on styles (by the way, I actually asked Kwesi and Steve about it - don't even think about asking nowadays). So, I was given Admin CP access to make styles.

Green's Ivy (and Red's Flame, which is gone now) were my first styles. And they came with buttons that looked like this.

Seems like a familiar style nowadays, eh? You can see a similar way of colouring in some recent forum styles. :D

Interesting transition and development, Jake. Really has come a long way.

Also, I like that neat idea about recreating the Pokémon World style. :D

I actually kind of liked that Pokémon World theme. :(
But I don't think it would look very good now. D: Interested to see what you'd do with it, though.

The most familiar style in that post would have to be the second button. I seem to remember that one perfectly. The first one however, I can't say I ever remember seeing.
