I am going to be two weeks living here in Houston. I'm wondering how long is it going to take me to gather a southern accent as well as to deteriorate from my "Cali" lingo. I still call the highways "freeways", I still refer to Southwest Highway 59 as "the 59", I'm not used to to the pollen levels here being "exaggeratedly high" (I've been with allergies since the FIRST TIME I went to Houston), the Mexican food from Taco Cabana actually sucks (as a full-blooded Mexican, I do judge this), and apparently my way of saying things is actually different from the way people say things around here.

I'm practically a foreigner to the residents here. I met a brony group last weekend, and they were all FASCINATED that I came from Cali and that my accent was "absolutely stunning"....wait, I have an accent? Meanwhile on my end, I'm absolutely having culture shock. Houston has a large multicultural environment with over 90 languages are spoken there. There are people from all over the world, some that are coming from countries that I haven't even heard of in my life, and at one point I even had to ask someone about their country of origin because I legit thought it was a "country that was recently discovered".

It was also that feeling I felt being a PC member too. I was fascinated by the Pokemon fans coming from all over, learning about their cultures and their places of origin. Living in the Valley, I did crave for that "diversification". In fact, when I was little, I used to live in a suburb where you would discover people speaking a different language. To me, it was music to my ears.

I miss California, but I don't miss California in a way. The weather has been pretty nice the past few days here, albeit we've had some rain spells on some days but they were friendly for my Cali self. Meanwhile, it's 100 degrees in the Valley. My mom texted me a picture of my nieces playing in the swimming pool. They pretty much skipped right over to Summer. xD The first few days I've been here, I actually went out in 50-60 degree weather without a coat on. It was the best feeling ever.
