"So, you wanna pair up?"

Hello hello! Last night on the battle server, a few people were asking the good ol' question that made me *squee* with happiness. "How do I get a pair? How do you guys pair up?" I told them I would make a writing piece about it...and this is it. Read it wisely because I placed sooo much thought on it, as well as took a few minutes out of my busy schedule to work it!

So, you may be new to this whole "pairing" thing, and you want to become part of this fad. Most if not all questions will be answered after you read this. To quote the FAQ:

The action of pairing is often when two forum members, usually good friends, get together. This can either be in a romantic way (as in, boyfriend/girlfriend, etc.) or as a platonic way to show friendship. People often write who they're paired with in their signatures. To pair, PM or contact the person whom you would like to pair with and if you mutually agree on it, you can post in this thread to record it.

Pairing is really easy to get into. It only takes one simple question, but the main thing about it is...does your partner or friend feel the same way? That may seem like you're asking someone out on a date but don't think of it that way (I did when I asked Buoysel three years ago xD). You can pair up with anyone, literally. You can have more than one pair. You can be a trio, or have five if you want to. Go crazy.

Now, enough of that boring rambling that I may have provided you and let's get to the nitty gritty, yes?

Think of your friends, especially the ones you feel closest with on PC. Do you find yourself talking to them almost every day? Do you call them your best friend? Or closest PC friend? Do you guys talk to each other outside PC? Have you two met irl? If this *someone" is the opposite gender, are you currently in a relationship with them? Have a crush on them? If you answer two or more of these questions, then perfect. This person is a great pair for you.

HOWEVER, this person you want to pair with should feel the same way! Don't expect the person to outright say yes, especially if it's a person that's already paired up with someone else. I'll explain that later in another paragraph. At first, you might feel pressured, anxious and scared. But don't be. It's just a simple question. If they say no, that's okay! Don't take this too seriously. Many people here on PC don't like the idea of pairings, so it is best to respect their wishes. The best example I can give you is getting rejected for a job you always wanted. If you are denied a position, don't worry about it. Apply for more. Keep asking around.

A mistake I made when I was new (and proooobably last year): desperation. Don't sound too desperate when looking for a pair. We have an emblem here on PC where you and your pair can earn if you stay paired up for a full year. It's okay if you place "looking for a pair" or "paired to no one" on your signature. But don't outright ask if you just started talking to the person for a few days. Give yourself time. My recommendation? Give yourself at least one month of continuous "talking" before you pop the question. (now that sounds like a marriage proposal, but really IT'S NOT LIKE THAT xD).

Did the person say yes? Good! Because I'm not done yet. Now that you got a pair, you gotta keep the river flow going, if you know what I mean. Keep talking! Keep spamming each other messages. You two are supposed to be best friends when it comes to pairs. If one of you stops talking for a few days if not months, the other person will begin to question. They may end up thinking you no longer want to pair up or you are just going for the emblem (which I do not recommend), and it is more likely that they'll "dump" you for another person that went through the same exact process as you did.

By the way, we have a Pairing Thread here on PC. Record your pairing there.

Did the person say no? The best thing I could say is to move on. I haven't gone through any "rejections" if I recall, but don't treat this as a really bad heartbreak. Did they say no because they're already paired up with someone else? Did they say no because they don't like the idea of pairing up? Did they say no because it's too soon? Again, that's okay. Like I said in a previous paragraph. Give yourself time. Don't rush into it.

I'd like to share some personal experiences if you don't mind! My longest pairing is the one I'm currently in, with Buoysel. My shortest pairing was with World King (no longer with us, I believe). The latter was my first one, and it was practically a failure because after a week of pairing up, we literally stopped getting along. You know, having different opinions about things! The former was my second one, and it's the best yet! It's a funny story on how everything went down, but I don't want to ramble any further. To be quite honest, I didn't feel the need to get the emblem after we went through one year, but a former mod buddy went ahead and did so nonetheless. What I realized that the most important of pairing up is the bond we have between us. Even though I made the mistake of pushing him aside to find a better (and active) pair, I never forgot about the magic of friendship we both shared.

And so, there you go. That's how pairings work here on PC! Like I said, don't take this too seriously, like I did with this blog entry. xD This is just an explanation of how it works. If you have any questions, comment below, or send me a VM or a PM. I'll be heading back to my own little world to finish homework and get ready for work later on. Happy pairing, everyone!~

note: i'm not responsible for the emotional outcome this blog has brought you lol

I once had as much as seven pairs at once.

But these days, I just stick to two lovely boys named AW and Windy. I don't mind being a girl who has two male pairs, a pair is still a pair.
