I've been busy with classes this summer so I haven't had much time to be here. When I'm on the computer, it's usually to type a paper , which usually takes all night. Therefore, I can't spend much time on here cause then I want to go to bed after typing a 3-4 page paper. Anyway, this July 4th weekend, I had a little to myself. Saturday I went to my first concerts ever. It was a part of my city's free concert series called Fair St.Louis they have every July 4th week/weekend. The band three bands I went to see were Capital Cities, The Neighbourhood, and The Fray. I thought I share my first concert experience with you guys.

Anyway, here we go!
Before the show.
I hoped into my dad's car around 3:30 and headed off to see Capital Cities. My older brother wanted to go so I dragged him along (as much as I didn't want to and was hoping for some me time, but to make him happy I did). We stopped at a local grocery store to get some bottles of water since they only allowed clear bottles and not metal or glass ones. But my dad let us out at a place called Turtle Park (because he couldn't get closer cause a lot of streets were blocked off) around 4:10 and we began hoofing it to Art Hill, the location of the concerts. It took us at least 30 minutes of walking before we got to our destination. When we arrived around 4:40 there was some RnB band playing and my brother was considering going home. However , he decided to stay until Capital Cities ended.
Capital Cites
5:00 came and passed and Capital Cities had not showed up yet. Around 5:15, I was wondering why the band hadn't arrived and thought "Maybe we were at the wrong stage." So I asked one of the Fair St.Louis staff members when the next show started and it turns out we were right. We were at the wrong stage! So we ended up missing about 20 minutes of their show , so we missed about half of their setlist. (Looking at the setlist online, the first song they played was "Kangaroo Court" which was one of the songs I was really looking forward to hearing ,so missing it was disappointing. Oh well, if I ever have the chance to see them again, I'll arrive on time and hopefully see them perform it! ) I managed to get a spot in the middle of the crowd next to a guy in a horse head mask. So that was fun.
And the good thing was I could see the band fully. Even though I missed half of the concert, it was still a blast! They were so full of energy!! When we got to the right stage, they just started playing their newest song, "One Minute More" (I also heard like the last 40ishj seconds of "Farrah Fewcett Hair on the way there) and everyone was jumping and dancing like crazy. Of course the song everyone got into was "Safe and Sound". It is their most popular and most successful song after all. One song they played that really surprised me was a cover of Madonna's Holiday cause I didn't know it at all. They ended with a remix of Safe and Sound by Cash Cash and it was really EDMish/electro house remix and overall a really fun and danceable. They were really gentemanly too and bowed at the end of their show.
The Neighbourhood
After Capital Cities, my brother decided to call my dad to pick him up. So I was able to finally have some time for myself and see The Neighbourhood and The Fray alone. I was semi-worried about my brother though because he had no idea how to get back to Turtle Park. Fortunately , he found his way back safe cause a few minutes later called my brother who picked him up and he said he was safe. Anyway, The Neighbourhood was next and I managed to getting a spot a bit closer to the stage. This time I was on the right side and at least 5 or 6 people back from the stage. I was behind a taller guy with big dreads so I had a somewhat hard time seeing every now and then , but the view was still decent. The Neighbourhood came on around 6:30 and opened with "Female Robbery" . They were more chill and relaxing, but they were still really good. Random note: Jesse Rutherford, the lead singer, had this interesting out; a jacket, white sunglasses, no shirt and these tight, shape-foirming zebra skinny jeans. IDK, I found his outfit interesting. Anyway, hey played a few songs from a new mixtape, they just released and one new song probably from an album or EP they were working on (I don't remember if they mentioned if they were working on anything). The song I really got into was "W.D.Y.W.F.M?" (which stands for "What Do You Want From Me?") It's just a really infectious song with a catchy chorus and I still have it in my head today. The crowd really got into "Sweater Weather" of course, practically shouting every lyric. Their last song was "Afraid" and it really ended the show with a big bang.
The Fray
I was able to find a spot in the center for The Fray. Waiting for them felt like an eternity though cause they had this presentation beforehand to honor the veterans. They also had this thing where the members of The Fray presented the keys to a home to this one less-fortunate couple. It was really sweet and heart-warming. But I was getting kind of tired just from standing there and doing nothing. The crowd was the biggest of the three groups and I was sandwiched between at least six people and two or three people in front of me were pretty tall. That's the thing that sucks about being 5 foot 5 I guess, a lot of people are way taller then you. >.> I decided to move and ended up being on the far left of the stage near the side railing. But finally, The Fray came on around 8:30 and opened with a song on their new album Helios called "Closer To Me". They had a really cool set with these neon poles of light and gray squares surrounding their equipment and stuff.
Anyway, they were really amazing ! I sang along to all of their songs, even the ones I didn't know from their new album. This is probably because they have so many known singles compared to The Neighbourhood and Capital Cities (and songs I love You Found Me, Over My Head, Heartbeat, Love Don't Die, How To Save a Life and Never Say Never). Their frontman, Issac , was really cool too and rather enthusiastic. At one point, he actually climbed on his piano and jumped off. He also told a funny story about how he used to worked as coffee brewer and there was this one grumpy old man who would be at the shop every morning at 5:30 am for a cup of coffee. Their last song on their setlist was a cover of Patsy Cline's song "Just a Closer Walk With Thee" ,a more spiritual song. Though they ended up doing an encore because everyone demanded it! They did three encore songs; "Break Your Plans", "Never Say Never", and "Same As You".
The Fray's concert was followed by a fireworks display on Art Hill. It was beautiful and the view was spectacular.
Afterwords, I called my brother to pick me up and I went home. Overall , It was really fun and for a first concert experience it was excellent. I really want to see more bands live now honestly. Though the next concert I go to, I think I want to pay for myself and get there on my own cause it will be a lot easier and not as frustrating.But I really, really, enjoyed myself and hope to see more concerts in the future!
