I'm moving to Canada.

So, I went to the doctors today. All they did was touch my ankle, and give me a ten dollar splint from Walmart.

They charged me $2087.00 for that, and I do have insurance.

So, I made this about it:
Spoiler:

I also did a little research.

The $125 billion spent on health care in 2010 (in Canada) is approximately $3,663 per Canadian. Now, Canada gets free health care (well, they apy through taxes.) Source

Now to have a child in the US costs "Data gathered from 2008 by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality shows that the charge for an uncomplicated cesarean section is approximately $15,000, while an uncomplicated vaginal birth runs about $9,000." Source

I will gladly pay more taxes and hope I don't have to go the hospital, rather than not pay health care taxes and have to worry about how much a splint will cost me as a college student with a minimum wage job.

Also, just thought I'd throw this in. 9.4% of people in Canada live below the poverty line. 12% of people in the United States live below the poverty line.

Gotta love the picture. I do see where you're coming from, but with each pro is a con. We have free healthcare, but there are long waiting times. That is, if you come when they are busy. I slept with a cracked wrist (idk why) but when I went to the hospital in the morning, I got admitted at 10:00. Out at 11:30. And that was going to triage, getting x-rays, having another doctor analyze it, and getting a cast put on. But yes, it is nice to not have to pay right out of pocket, especially when you are a college student or below the poverty line.

btw that should go on memebase.

Health care is the only reason I will never consider moving to the US. I make a lot of use of our health care system and can't even imagine the idea of not having health care available to me for free.

Wait times aren't really much of an issue anyway. If you need a major procedure, you'll get it. Really it's just specialist referrals that take forever... which you wouldn't be able to afford without insurance anyway so I don't see the big deal. :/
