Challenge Accepted - Top Ten Pokemon

Alright, as some of you might know I'm accepting challenges until the 29th of this month. Just post a suggestion in the comments below or in the Challenge Pie entry. This challenge was another suggestion from Klippy, who gave me the topic of writing about my favourite pokemon.

We'll be counting down from number ten today as I have arranged these in a rough order. Let us begin.

Number Ten - Carbink

carbink.jpg

I love Carbink and I actually prefer it to its legendary relative, Diancie, which is probably a surprise to some people. I find that Carbink has a really interesting typing and concept and it's simplistic (and somewhat adorable) design fits the idea behind it perfectly. I have never actually used Carbink, but I'd love to find it a niche in a team somewhere.

Number Nine - Vanilluxe

This little guy gets a lot of hate for his design, but I really like it. It's concept is very fun and original and I the designer has done a very good job with the concept. Although it's meh speed and defensively weak typing make it a terrible choice competitively, in game this pokemon can be a demon with a high Sp. Atk and a good offensive typing.

Number Eight - Kangaskhan

kangaskhan-mega.jpg

It's a badass kangaroo pokemon that is born with a baby, need I say more? Well if I must... I'm not sure if it's the Australian in me or something but I've always been fond of this pokemon ever since I first used it on Pokemon Stadium for the Nintendo 64. I find this pokemons design is appealing, it has decent stats, a fairly wide move pool and now it also has one of the most crazy-ass mega-evolutions available. x2 Power-Up Punch? I think yes.

Number Seven - Feraligatr

feraligatr.jpg

Feraligatr is relatively powerful wit access to some good physical moves that allow it to maximise its good physical stats (especially when is has its hidden ability). I've never made use of it competitively, but I'm sure it is very useful in its tier with the right moveset. Still, this pokemon like most others is on his list for its design. It's very simple but it's perfect in its simplicity.

Number Six - Flygon

flygon.jpg

I don't think I have to say much about Flygon, it is easily one of the best designed pokemon in the entire franchise - many would argue the best even. I love the idea of taking a dragon fly and then giving it draconic attributes to its appearance and the artist did that job fantastically. Flygon is definitely not as powerful as its counter-part Salamence, but it's still plenty useful in its tier and is a force to be reckoned with in-game.

Number Five - Noivern

noivern.jpg

Noivern only narrowly edged out Flygon for this spot. It's another dragon that is extremely unique in its concept and it has a great design to back it up. However its great competitive usefulness in the OU tier earned it a place above Flygon. Noivern is one of the best special sweepers around if you ask me as it has enormous speed and access to some very diverse and powerful moves.

Number Four - Staraptor

staraptor.jpg

Whilst it has become somewhat more viable competitively thanks to the addition of its hidden ability, Reckless, and it is a great pokemon for use in game neither of these reasons are why I love Staraptor. This pokemon is so high on my list because it was the first early bird line to be a real threat and because its design reflects that. Few pokemon have a design that screams badass like Staraptor's does.

Number Three - Sceptile

sceptile.jpg

Sceptile was one of my first starters and was my introduction to the Hoenn region. I've used it many times and I always enjoy its great speed and special attack (and decent physical attack). It's mega-evolution and good movepool have only added to this. What really sells this pokemon for me though, and its entire evolutionary line really, is that it is practically the embodiment of cool in its design.

Number Two - Charizard

charizard-mega-y.jpg

I loved Charizard from the first time I used it on Pokemon Stadium and it has always been high on my list of favourites. Charizard, and both its mega-evolutions, have a fantastic design and I always enjoyed this pokemons characterisation. I am very pleased to see it with some competitive viability now because it needs it to back up its reputation.

Number One - Lucario

lucario-mega.jpg

I love everything about this pokemon. It's got a brilliant design (both normal and mega), it's an interesting concept, I've enjoyed its characterisation and it has great stats and a wide movepool. Lucario is a very viable pokemon competitively and can mess you up from afar or up close and personal and look amazing whilst doing it.

Well, those are my favourites right now. What do you think? What are your own favourites? Feel free to share below. Keep watching for my next entry which was a challenge from Foxrally

I'll admit it, I was surprised at Vanilluxe :O

I'm a big fan of ice types, including Vanillite and Vanillish, but multi-bodied pokemon (Dugtrio, Doduo/trio, Magneton) never really appealed to me so Vanilluxe isn't one of my favorites.

Interested to see what you'll make of my challenge :P

I'm not usually a fan of multi-bodied pokemon myself. Vanilluxe just has this charm about it though that I can't resist. Oddly enough though, I don't like Vanilish very much compared to Vanillite and Vanilluxe.
