As you all know, Rhyperior is one of my favourite Pokemon, alongside Pokemon such as Weavile, Crobat, Gengar and Milotic. A few months ago I've decided to start a so-called "campaign" and promoted this Pokemon in my signature (Garbodor and Tangrowth too) as something which deserves respect from people. This thing has done nothing wrong and some of you guys keep taking a shit on this Pokemon without considering its positives...

Rhyperior is in RU right now, which in my opinion is the right place for it, but it's also very usable in UU, OU and even Ubers (where it's one of the toughest counters to Mega Salamence and Ho-Oh). Here are a few arguments of why I think Rhyperior is a good Pokemon that very few people seem to love.

1. There's nothing wrong with it looking drastically different from Rhydon.
In my opinion, there is absolutely no reason to hate Rhyperior for this reason, unless you hate Dragonite as well. Rhyperior looks cool when you think about it, being the Pokemon version of a miner, since it evolves from a Protector, having a powerful horn and the ability to shoot Geodudes out of its hands (kinda like a sniper rifle).

2. Rock/Ground is actually a pretty cool typing.
Many people seem to overexaggerate its quadruple weaknesses to Water and Grass. They forget there are 18 types... and Rhyperior has resistances to Fire and Flying, if we go on this route. An immunity to Electric and a resistance to Rock is not something to ignore either, especially competitively, as this means an immunity to Volt Switch and a resistance to Stealth Rock, two of the best attacks on the competitive field. Rhyperior in-game is usually easy to beat, but when you use it it's just as easy to gain victories, by spamming Stone Edge and Earthquake until hell freezes over. Rock + Ground has excellent neutral coverage, with only a few select Pokemon resisting both of them. Rhyperior's sheer bulk and Solid Rock also allows it to survive some attacks such as Waterfall and Ice Beam. Competitively, it's a tank that is very hard to break on the physical side, destroying Talonflame which many of you call OP, as well as other birds and Charizard X.

3. Its poor Speed can be an advantage too!
Try using it in Trick Room. A playstyle which is at least worth trying, imo. Give Rhyperior the moves Swords Dance, Earthquake, Stone Edge and a filler move (I'd recommend Ice Punch to OHKO Landorus-T and TankChomp). Tank an attack, set up a SD and you have 2 turns to break anything that comes in Rhyperior's path. 2 Pokemon taken down is immense in competitive play. Of course, there are ways to circumvent it, but usually Rhyperior can do this pretty flawlessly, especially against balanced teams. Extremely few things can survive a +2 Earthquake or Stone Edge, and need to be perfectly conserved:

+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Rhyperior Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 281-331 (84.1 - 99.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 144+ Def Hippowdon: 343-406 (81.6 - 96.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Suicune: 321-380 (79.4 - 94%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

(and yes this is coming from someone who actually used SD Rhyperior to decent success in TR)

So here they are, my main arguments of why I believe Rhyperior needs a little more respect from you guys. Not forcing you to like it or use it in your teams, but don't hate it with all your passion. This is one of the most shat on Pokemon that exists, yet no one can prove why it's "terrible".

Finally, here are some sets worth trying:
