I was at a creek with some people I know, and a young teenager called to my friend to help her catch a snake. That friend instead told her to ask me, instead. I ran over (which contributed to the cuts on the bottom of my feet due to sharp rocks there), and she showed me that it was curled up underwater against a rock.
After I had a chance to figure out if it was venomous based on the shape of its head (and it wasn't), my friend nudged it with a stick so we could grab it with some nets. Neither of us were bitten. It did come at my legs a few times, but most of them, I was able to move away or block it with a net.
Once we had captured it, I stopped and looked at the teenager for the first time. I hadn't really paid attention when we first "met", because of the snake.
I thought she was a guy. .__.
So did my friend. It took until her mother referred to her as her daughter before any of us knew. The mohawk sort of thing she had going on contributed to our confusion.
Anyway.
Here's a picture of the snake.
Am I wrong, or is it just a water snake?
Cute little dude, hmm?
