It gets me money , which I can use to see friends and stuff.

Some friends I know from a Facebook group really wanted me to go with them to see Fall Out Boy and Paramore all the way out in Indiana. The thing is I can't make it cause I can't afford to go out there all the way from St.Louis. They all offered to pay my way there, but I seriously would feel bad not at least giving some money for gas and staying at their place. And I'm broke so it would take me ages to pay them back and how long it would take to pay them back would also make me feel bad. Plus on top of that it's July 9th and I have a summer class that day. I'm bad at maintaining good attendance and I can't miss 6 days of class or I fail. This is a class I'm taking cause I skipped too many classes actually so that proves something. I really want to pass this class so cause it's required at my school and I really want to take art classes as soon as possible, with the fall being the earliest possible if I pass this class. So , as much as I hated saying no, I had to turn them down cause of no money and being too busy/dedicated with school.

This is really persuading me to find a job however. I know if I had a steady income, I could see my friends more often. So in conclusion, all this summer I'm gonna buckle down on job hunting. Gonna apply every where I can. I'm going to do my best at interviews and also work hard at school to pass my class.Wish me luck guys!

Why not just go, and while you'll initially feel bad, promise to yourself and them that you'll pay them back once you get a job.

I'd definitely take the opportunity, just don't forget to cover them later on. ;p

At this point I've already made it clear to them that I can't go. Probably should have stated this first in the blog post, but , the trip from St.Louis to Indiana is pretty much a day or 2 day trip considered I stay at someone's house for a night or two. Then I'd be exhausted from all the jumping and screaming at the concert and by the time I'd get home, I wouldn't want to go to class the next day. So pretty much if I go to the concert instead of my classes, I'd miss 3 or 4 days of school. That's too much missing days to miss. I'm very determined to pass that class so I don't have to take it again in the fall and put off taking art classes. That's why I choose to retake the class this summer. I want to start taking art classes ASAP so I can get more than one semester of art credit and the fall or spring is the best bets for me.

And while of course I could pay them back, I'm sure with America's economy, I can't find a job in two or three months. And I'd feel bad not giving their money back (which I figured would be around 20 -100 dollars for gas) sixth months to a year or so later.

So while it would be fun, there's too much things that prevent it from happening.

TL:DR: It's just not worth it imo.

Does your college offer Federal Work Study? If it does, indicate on your FAFSA that you are interested in it, and talk with your college's career center or whomever handles job placement for student employees. FWS is a great way to start working and add onto your résumé as well. If your college has a FWS position open, just apply for it and show your interest, regardless of where you may want to work in your school. :)

As a side note, I should let you know that I got my first (and current) job through applying for federal work study.

I believe so and I'm gonna have to look into that. I think my brother did work study his first year of college and when he goes back this fall I'm sure he's gonna go back to FWS. It really helped him get the money he needed when he wasn't in town to work at his actual job. From what he told me though, it doesn't pay well, but hey it's a job anyway and I really don't need a lot of money to have fun in my city. (Though I may get an actual job on the side if I need extra cash.)

You could always try freelancing if you know any skills such as web design, or writing.
I really don't have enough skills in art,web design, or writing to do freelancing. Though that's why I'm taking art classes. To improve my art skills and maybe someday do some freelancing. :P
