B/W Starters & Region Announced!

In English, of course. C'mon, I've beaten Black. I'm not that far behind the times!

The official English names were released today. We have Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott. Isshu is now Unova.

Snivy
I like this a lot more than Smugleaf. So much more. Watching the fallout from all the people who, for some reason, actually thought they'd name it Smugleaf (seriously??) is excellent.

Tepig
They had so many options from fire and pig puns to choose from and they chose this. Eh. Ehhhh. This is boring. :(

Oshawott
All I can think of when I see this is the nearby city of Oshawa, which is terribly uninteresting. Where does the Osha part come from, anyone know? o_O

Unova
Unova will take some getting used to. Sinnoh wasn't too far off from Shinou. And Kanto and Johto were the same. Was Hoenn really different or is this the only region to get such a major change?

So. What do you guys think?

I believe Oshawott is a play on Ocean+water+otter. Far too complex a pun if you ask me. XD

...and Hoenn was Houen in Japan iirc, so Unova is truly the only region to have a significant change in translation. :P

I think we should hold a vote to just close B/W as a forum all together. I think it'll pull out well.

I agree completely. I love Snivy as Tsutaja's English name. Tepig? Fail. Oshawatt I'm impartial on. It's not horrible, but It could use some work.

Unova is just ridiculous, they should have just kept it as Isshu. As for the starter names, they're all horrible except Smugleaf's english name.

IDG why people were making such a big deal about Smugleaf when it was just a nickname for it D:

I wasn't expecting Smugleaf at all, and the fact that people were makes me lol. But even Smugleaf is better than Snivy. That's just so unoriginal and really shows off their lack of creativity.

Oh wow, they kept the legendaries Japanese names. Go die in a fire NoA.

I like how the reaction to the hodgepodge of the name Oshawott mirrors the initial reaction reaction to the hodgepodge of it's design. XD

All of them are terrible and I hate to say that.
I do kinda like Unova though, but it too will take time to grow on me.

Snivy is a cool name. Tepig isn't as good. Oshawott is in between those. In other words: Snivy > Oshawott > Tepig.

I feel like these complaints have been said before.

@Kura: lmao, no kidding. :( I may not be the biggest fan of all the names but the amount of sheer loathing I'm seeing toward them tonight is just ridiculous. People all felt this way toward the starters and the game in general anyway, though, and fangasm everywhere over them now, so I imagine this'll probably be exactly the same. 9_9
