Programming a necessity?

Good for you bro, thats the way you should do it. Honestly I ask for help as the last resort. That is what I want people to be doing; trying to solve the problem first before asking for help. I congratulate you for doing that; thank you.

Come on though, the part you quoted from me is common sense. If one is not an artist; he needs to practice to be an artist. Same goes for programming; one can not make a game without programming. So if making a game alone is the goal, learn to program. Easy as that.

This infuriates me beyond all belief. The thing is, you do not need to know how to program to design a fantastic game. There are dozens of fantastic games produced in various versions of RPG Maker that use only the functions that the program can do on its own.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm all for learning how to program, but if you have no interest in becoming a professional then why should you have to learn something so complicated just for your hobby?

Momentai. Forgive the ignorant people and let 'em wallow in their lack of knowledge if ya must. XD

Though knowing how to program a little bit can help you in creating a game, it isnt required if you have the right tools. I've always felt most the same way. Why reinvent the wheel for a little game you're putting together in your spare time? XD

DESIGNING a game.. no.. but making it able to run and work.. yes.. unless you're doing one of those "click this link here" types of games.. then yes, I believe you do need programming.

But to be part of a game development TEAM you don't need to be a programmer. I don't know programming and I've worked for a Xbox360/PS3 gaming studio and they liked my work. Depends on what you're going in for.

well it definetly helps if the team's leader is a skilled scripter. But there are plenty of great games out there where the team leader isn't a scripter.
I mean look at Malachite and Helio. Helio even says they don't have much advanced scripting but its still a great game.
