PC's reporting system.

Posted October 10th, 2008 at 04:37 PM by Ausaudriel

(I've been meaning to make a blog about this for a while (since a few members have asked about it before), but since we were in the process of replacing our report system, I figured I would wait until the new one was done.)

SO ANYWAY. When you report messages (posts, visitor messages, pictures, etc.) on PC, they obviously get sent off to moderators. Beyond that, though, I'm going to show you how we see them and keep track of them.

First, whenever things are reported, any staff member (moderator or higher) will see some text pop up near where we all (all members) see the "Notifications" menu. The reports are shown below them:

The "Post Reports" link brings you to the moderator control panel, where you see the list of "open" reports. Basically, there are three different report statuses. There's "open", which is what all reports are by default. When a report is sent by a member, it's listed as open.

The next type is "pending", which makes the report still shown as an "open" report in the list of them in the mod CP, but reports set to pending aren't shown in the report count on the main board. As in, like in that screenshot I showed up above, pending reports don't make that appear / aren't shown in the count. We set reports to pending when we aren't sure about it and want another moderator to look at it and give input on it. (You'll see what I mean in a minute.)

Closed reports, as the name implies, are reports that have already been handled by somebody and aren't shown in the "open" list in the mod CP, or in the count on the board under notifications.

Anyway, going back to the list of reports, each report looks like this:

In it, we can see what forum it's in, who posted it, what thread it's in, and so on. It also shows who reported it and when (this is useful when we're looking for potential moderators. People who report a lot are the first people we look at as mods), and what they said in the report (duh. XD)

You'll see that report statuses can be changed, and that when that happens, a log is entered. It shows the name of the moderator who changes it, what they changed to, and when. (We can also put in notes for other mods to see, but that's not required.) Each time a report is updated or a note added, an entry in the log is listed to make it easier to talk to each other about who did what and why, and so on.

That's basically it. XD; Just felt like blogging about it. (b' ')b

XD I actually remember sending that report....I'm flattered that you chose it for this particular example.

But none-the-less, this was a very interesting and informational blog. Thanks Ausaudriel!

I find it funny how far the report system has come from when I first saw it - and I mean the system where reports were sent as PMs, haha. :V

I love that this is finally done. *__* Yeeee.

Nope, we can see who makes every report. We've always been able to do that.
