I'm back! I bet you didn't notice I was gone! But here's why:

Worked Wednesday, left from work to Eau Claire at 9pm. Overnight at dad's, picked up by Uncle Jake at noon. Drove down to Grandma & Grandpa's cabin on their 80 acres of land in Cadott. Left there for fest. Came back every night to sleep, woke up for camp showers and breakfast and back out to fest. Sunday night 1am drove back to Eau Claire with Jake, did laundry and slept at dad's, rode with him to Baldwin at noon to meet stepdad to bring me to work at 2pm. Worked till 8. Got a bus back. Got my ass on PC. Hello again. I'm exhausted. And tan. And overfed. And broke. And I have to get up at 8 tomorrow for work. Whatever. Here are some thing I've found.

"Blood is thicker than water", right? Not in the way you've come to think. The original saying is "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb." Which is to say, relationships forged by choice are stronger than those of biological accident.

"The exception proves the rule." We-ell... the common use of 'prove' is more like 'establish as true'. That isn't right, though. When the phrase was first being used, they used 'prove' to mean 'put to the test'. The proper meaning of the phrase is that "the exception puts the rule to the test" and proves the rule to be false.

Nuclear reactions, mind you, are another matter: the transmutation can be done, but it is wildly uneconomic. And unless you're very careful, the gold is radioactive (although, of course, this will keep the money circulating quickly, and we might see a sudden upsurge of philanthropy).
