So MangaStream has stopped scanlating Shounen Jump comics entirely. I would be okay with this if the license holders actually provided a proper alternative, but a web version of Jump that comes out three weeks late (when amateurs on manga sites can have it out in a matter of hours) AND is only available in the US, I would not consider being a proper alternative. Not when it really wouldn't be that hard to put some actual effort in getting things out there.

As it is now the entire industry is practically begging for piracy.

...Speaking of improper alternatives, one of my favourite series, TWGOK, has been dubbed. I guess I should be blaming the lacking quality of the American voice acting industry over anything else, but yeah, even though it has some decent sides it's pretty bad. Which is really unfortunate.

Fanlating is honestly probably one of the things that has helped the industry flourish as well as it has. Just like I posted on the Mangastream Facebook post about it: All VIZ is doing is hurting the industry more, and thereby, also hurting themselves. Especially with their more obscure licensed series. Sad thing is, what's probably gonna happen, is they're gonna push it so far and never take the blame for their failures themselves until they realize "Oh hey. Maybe they're not the major problem. Maybe we just suck at efficiency and have just pissed them off more and that's what killed us." Even then though, doubt it'll happen. No one in capitalism takes the blame or acknowledges their own mistakes anymore it seems =/

Also: as far as subbing/dubbing goes, both sides suck from time to time. I tend to honestly like the English dubs more though, tbh. Save for my favorite series, funnily enough.

Oh, so that's what the Shonen Jump Alpha thing is that keeps on popping up in the ads on the top of the pages here. It's kind of sad that there's that much of a delay, especially when you have to pay for the service... Not to mention that there's a location restriction, which IMO is unfair to manga fans residing outside of the U.S. Possibly due to certain issues with manga rights and all, but still...

I'm more of an English-dub-voice fan. I've had very few issues with English anime voice actors...Bald's English voice actor from the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime, Jacuzzi's English voice actor from Baccano!, and Wolverine's English voice actor from Marvel Anime: Wolverine are the only issues I've had, with the FMA example only being a slight issue compared to the other two. Other than that, most English voice actors seem to do good-quality jobs, IMO.

I can't really vouch for any Japanese voice actors, as I'm not fluent in Japanese and hardly watch any subbed anime...although IMO, it's rare for me to hear "distinct/unique" voices when I watch subbed anime; it feels like many of them sound the same despite the characters likely having different Japanese voice actors...
