Tablet? Netbook? Notebook?

I think I'm so selling my old laptop now. It's literally falling apart - creaky hinges, faded out keyboard labels, light leakage on screen edges, less than 1.5 hours of battery life, unreliable Wi-Fi, toasty CPU... I'm gonna sell it anytime soon! (And I checked and it seems to be worth less than $100. AAAAARGH!

Now, what's a good choice for me when it comes to portable computing? (Having it within $700 range is a good idea, but I might end up being strapped for cash. Again.)

So in an effort to save the CPU from certain doom...

I opened the PC case again. And then... I removed the entire CPU and graphics card along.

Then I removed the heatsink on the CPU. And put it under strong light.

The one thing I can say is... "Oh my. Oh my." Never before I have seen so much dust caked in - seems like blowing air on it just plain didn't work in the last few times.

So what's a plushie to do? Why, I decided to just physically remove the dust. With a toothpick. Same thing for the...

Let's see here...

  • The computer slows down when having more than 50% CPU load for more than half a minute
  • The computer randomly freezes while at stock settings for everything
  • I check temperatures and discover that the CPU is at 70 degrees C
  • I dust PC
  • Temperatures still high
  • I set fans to maximum speed, and temperatures are still high
  • I downclock the CPU to 60% of its original speed, and it still hovers around 60 degrees C at full load
Do you think I need to replace this CPU? I think it might be breaking...
