October 14th, 2009 07:00 AMAurafireHai Audy, I know Luke said he was going to ask if you could make a shoddy server for PC, I gave it a go and found that this guide was pretty helpful: http://shoddybattle.com/server_guide
I got stuck somewhere at the MySQL server, but hopefully it helps a little. Like Luke said, we'd all very much appreciate it if you could make it work <3
And if you're already trying whatever the guide said, then I guess this is just a friendly VM XD
October 28th, 2008 12:27 PMAurafireWell...That certainly clearly some things up! (And by "some" I mean everything XD)
It looks like things are run pretty well anyway. But I'm sure that comes from years and years of experience with running PC, so you guys probably have a pretty good idea as to which things will work best.
The thing I've always loved about PC is the Q&F section. It's cool that regular members can make their voices heard on certain issues and such (Although I'm not sure how much the staff actually takes stuff like that into consideration). Even though most if it is just simple questions, I'm sure some cool ideas have popped up every now and then.
October 28th, 2008 12:19 PMProtoWell, there are actually four different levels of staff forums, corresponding to each staff rank.
The mod lounge is obviously for mods and up, it's basically just for mods to suggest things and have them talked about, or for mods to get help if they have a question, or anything like that. (Two other forums go with that one, so total mods can see three staff forums. Leave of absence and mod hangout, which are pretty much self-explanatory. Mod hangout is just where we go to relax and get to know each other.)
Above that is where most of the stuff happens, it's called the community headquarters. Super moderators and higher can see it, and it's literally where the bulk of "running" the community goes. Most ideas are posted and talked about there, and it's also where we talk about new moderators and promoting them and stuff.
The next one up is called praetor/admin discussions. It's for AAs and higher (Praetor is the old name of the rank before they changed it to assistant admin), and it's for things that relate to just people with ACP access.
Thenn at the very top, where only community site admins and staff admins can tread, is administrator discussions. I have no idea what they do in there beyond talking about new community sites. XD
Aaand there's an overly long explanation about PC's staff forums that you probably didn't need or want. XD
October 28th, 2008 12:07 PMAurafireHaha...I'm sure you'll get used to it soon enough. But it sounds like you have a pretty good deal being an AA XD...So I guess now you really get to do everything staff members do, just in tinier amounts. (Sounds fun =P)
I've always wondered what goes on in that secret Admin HQ of yours =P (Forgive me if I seem like I'm snooping...I've just always been curious as to how PC works behind the scenes.)
October 28th, 2008 12:00 PMProtoWell, most of the work for any admin (AA or full/site/staff admin) is pretty much behind the scenes. When you get into the higher ranks and don't have as much moderating to do, you can kind of relax and revert back to like a "member" stage, post more casually without constantly worrying about moderating (they [we? @_@] still moderate at times, though.) AAs probably have it best, since we're half way between s-mod and admin we can kinda moderate a bit more. XD;
Then every once in a while when something bigger comes up, obviously that's when our actual power on the forum is used. We're always talking about stuff in the staff forums and trying to come up with ways to make PC a better place, though. Reviewing mods and scouting forums that need new ones, talking about new features or rules or things like that, so on and so forth.
(It's still weird to say "we" instead of "they". @_@)
October 28th, 2008 11:38 AMAurafireWell, as long as you don't mind =P
Honestly, that's the only thing I see AA's do, besides the occasional thread closing or whatever. But I'm sure you do fun admin stuff behind the scenes =P
And 10k profiles views! Nicely done
October 28th, 2008 11:32 AMProtoOh yes, quite fun. XD
In all seriousness I don't mind doing it. It's nice to have something to do other than just post reports. XD;
October 28th, 2008 11:26 AMAurafireI can already tell you're enjoying all those name changes XD
October 7th, 2008 07:18 PMAurafireI found it quite helpful
I always try to direct new members to it, but something tells me that it gets skipped over quite a bit.
October 7th, 2008 07:11 PMProtoYou'd be surprised how feel people actually read the FAQ. -____- It's sad really, so many questions can be answered there. They're frequently asked questions after all.
October 7th, 2008 07:08 PMAurafireNo probs, I'm surprised someone didn't see it before o.O
October 7th, 2008 06:59 PMProtoThanks for letting me know. :3 I'll edit the thread with the right link.
October 7th, 2008 06:24 PMAurafireHey Ausaudriel, I just have a quick observation:
In the FAQ, the link under "How do I get paired up?" leads to the old pairing thread that has now been locked. No biggy, since most people who want to get paired have been here for a while, but still ...it seems like it should take you to the right place.
This was such a small comment, I didn't really feel the need to post a new thread in Feedback. =P
October 7th, 2008 10:27 AMProtoGod I know. XD I'm always on PC, even during classes and homework and stuff. ;
It's worth it though.
October 7th, 2008 09:46 AMAurafire=( That doesn't sound good...
This is my last day of class because my school gives us the Jeiwsh holidays off
Anyway....I'm in Bio lecture right now O.O.....PC is that addicting =P
