Yeah, that's the same approach I used when translating Light Platinum. It was such a massive buzzkill the one time I had to restart my save file from the beginning because I'd messed something up and needed to retest earlier scripts.
I know what you mean :D
I actually spend a lot of time doing the hacking work, then test if the complicated scripts work and possibly fix them and progress with the gameplay of my hack at the same time when I'm making it. Then again, I spend only a little amount of time playing anything else.
I've honestly got a ridiculously huge backlog of games, so I probably won't play it all that soon. It's right at the top of my list the next time I feel like playing pokemon, though (at least, until B&W2 hits). I'm so tired of GBA generation hacks you have no idea. XD
Hi, going to reply to your comment on Dark Future thread here.
If you haven't tested it out yet, you should play through Beta 3.1 because it will take a long time to complete the hack. Brightbulb City is pretty far in the game itself (where the beta ends) and you can expect more than 10 hours of gameplay without speeding it up and there are lots of unique events in this hack you won't see in other pokemon games.
So yeah, test it out and post feedback later on how it was
