I started by looking for tiles I liked and making them rpgmaker sized. Then I made maps and did the events for the story line. With testing every few fixes of course. My game I'm working on right now I had to change all the sprites to gen v ones, including the intro screen heroes and prof. After I had that all set I mapped out the first areas I'd need for my game, all the connections and transport events, tested them. Then since in my game the mom gives you your pokemon right off I made that event and tweaked it till it worked, then moved onto the next story point, tested till it worked, etc. I just got to the tricky part, mapping the main area the game is centered around. So... to shorten it a bit, I just go piece by piece according to my story line. Mapping slightly ahead so I can do all the eventing in one or two days. You can't really event until maps are done out (at least not completely) so I do those first, graphics being done on the side as I need them.
I want RMPX (Essentials thing) actually, since mine's the Ace version and its a Japanese crack so scripts are stored in japanese so I can't use Essential starter kit xD. Anyway I hope you could tell me how to start making the game and stuff since I've already gotten a well-written story (my fanfic) and working on sprites since I'm an expert Spriter and also the town's names etc. but don't know where to start. (Yeah Skyrim is best of Tamriel xD)
I'd advise you start with a well written out idea, story, plot, etc. It makes things go a lot smoother when you know what and why the player is doing what they are doing. What program and what kind of rpg are you making, or thinking of making? (I can't wait for ESO, and want skyrim)
