Something like that, though I think that's only one version of the legend about golems.
I am, yes! I always end up reading stuff on the origins of the Pokemon I use or seem interesting. There are so many based on various Japanese legends, like Froslass and Mawile, and even those that seem based on mere animals or plants have a story to tell, like Meowth, who isn't just a random cat, but actually draws inspiration from the maneki neko. And then there's Oddish; ever since I was little and saw Oddish in the anime, I thought it was just a radish, but it's supposedly based on a mandrake, and there are so many myths around the mandrake that are hinted to in Oddish's dex entries, that you can't help but wonder "man, they actually went there!".
Oh wow, I didn't know about that :o I guess that makes a heck of a lot more sense as a Ground/Ghost type then haha. I've heard very vaguely about the golems, don't you put a piece of paper in their mouth with a command written on it and they're supposed to have come to life and performed the task? Or that may have been in a movie... hehe. It's interesting to know about though. :D
Does this mean you're interested in the origins of Pokémon too? I find them fascinating, it amazes me how they come up with some of the concepts that they do haha. And you're not a bother at all, I enjoy talking to people about this stuff. :D And it depends on the club but most of the time it's fine yes, I do it quite a lot haha.
I have to agree with above and say Golurk. It's basically a giant ghost robot that even has built-in jets to fly with; what on earth screams 'Ground-type' about that?
Golurk is based on a Jewish golem, which were made out of mud or clay, hence the Ground typing, so it's not really a ghost robot though I have no idea why they gave him built-in jets. Actually, its dex entries and appearance indicate that it may have been based on the classic Golem of Prague (pic), that was built to protect the Prague ghetto.
It's just that Prague happend to be one of my most favorite cities in the world, making Golurk very special to me, and I thought you'd actually like to know about this, since you seem interested in the stories behind Pokemon. Anyway, still really random, so sorry if I'm a bother, but I thought I'd be really off-topic if I posted this in the Steel-type fan club. Can you even post in a club were you're not a member?
