I think I got it figured out quickly, actually...was just frustrated for 45 minutes. I just have to resprite the tiles in paint without changing the palette, which then I can do within AdvanceMap.

Don't ask me, I'm not very good at it. However, if you just search "tiles" in the tutorial section, there are about 15 different tutorials on it. I'm sure you will find a good one.

Hey, I'm starting to use Advance Map. I already know the basics, like mapping, warp events, person events, etc but I need help with tileset/tileset palette editing. While I'm intent on replacing entire tilesets with my own work, I just want to replace a handful of 16x16 tiles in a tilemap without having the color mess up or not even have them show up properly.

Yes, you could do that and then make certain items that force it to evolve into its other forms.

As for my hermit crab Pokemon's form changing, I think I have a little hunch of how I MIGHT be able to do it. With YAPE, and one or more of the 25 ??? slots as form changes of it.

Sorry, I've been working on my rom all night long and I'm a bit sleepy.

Oh, so you had the wrong palette offsets? That makes sense. A lot of times, Un-Lz actually has the wrong palette listed, so that is very possible.

Someone on the PokeRomHacking reddit gave me a tut link, the one I posted in with the Oak/Gary palette offsets.

There is quite a bit. On FR, usually 0x740000 - 0xFFFFFF is mostly free space. There is a little bit of data in there, but not much.

How did you solve your problems with the sprites?

Do you happen to know how much free space is in an average GBA rom, or more specifically, firered? I'm a little little bit concerned about space usable for the hacking of my rom, but it's just a curiosity really.

I opened up my sprite in GIMP and hand-typed in the color hex codes (I.e, 385d2f) from GIMP's palette list for my sprite in the color picker tool for each individual box in the changed palette. I then saved it as a .gpl file so I wouldn't have to do it by hand all over again. Yes, the palette changes fine initially and even looks fine if I reload the rom in APE after saving and go back to the palette offset.

and both the original palette and the new palette looked correct before and after insert?

    1. Open FR Rom
    2. Load "0046161C" Offset (Hex) for Red's intro sprite palette.
*with the "Compressed palette (LZ77)" tickbox unchecked.
    3. Go to "Import" in "Changed Palette". (Index 1)
    4. Import "Aiden.gpl"
    5. Click "Replace".
    6. Close APE.

Those are the steps I did, exactly.
