Yeah, I assume it has to be. I haven't noticed any similar issues in Red++ yet thankfully. The one in Christmas doesn't seem to be dangerous, it just looks scary. Sometimes when playing on VBA-M, the screen will go glitchy when a textbox pops up, but then fix itself. No idea why, since it works fine everywhere else and there shouldn't be anything wrong with that routine (it should still be vanilla) so I just chalk it up to VBA-M.

Based on what you've said in the past, it seems like Gen 6 has been a disappointment compared to Gen 5. Do you feel like you're losing interest in the franchise?

So with Christmas I specifically warn people not to use VBA M, and if they do, be warned lol.

VBA-M is buggier with gbc roms than VBA so I don't use it. Christmas has a bug that happens in VBA-M, but NOT in vba, bgb, on a flashcart, in GBC emulators for Android and iOS, etc.

While I use VBA a lot for testing because it's commonly used, I do test in BGB as well to try and ensure things work properly.

Well, crits are based off Speed, and Electrode has a ton of that.

Don't know if I've mentioned this already, but this year looks like it'll be the first year since 1997 to not see a main series release in ANY country:

1996: Red/Green (JP) and Blue (JP)
    1997: None
1998: Red/Blue (Int) and Yellow (JP)
1999: Yellow (Int) and Gold/Silver (JP)
2000: Gold/Silver (Int) and Crystal (JP)
    2001: Crystal (Int)
    2002: Ruby/Sapphire (JP)
    2003: Ruby/Sapphire (Int)
    2004: FireRed/LeafGreen (JP/Int) and Emerald (JP)
    2005: Emerald (Int)
    2006: Diamond/Pearl (JP)
    2007: Diamond/Peal (Int)
    2008: Platinum (JP)
2009: Platinum (Int) and HeartGold/SoulSilver (JP)
    2010: HeartGold/SoulSilver (Int) and Black/White (JP)
    2011: Black/White (Int)
    2012: Black 2/White 2 (JP/Int)
    2013: X/Y
    2014: OmegaRuby/Alpha Sapphire

How do you feel about that? While I think it's good that GF is taking a break, the lack of a new game has REALLY killed discussion on the boards.

Yeah, I know. Believe it or not, I'm using the Team Magma skin. Not because I'm a fan of them, but because my sexy redheaded Dragon Master is on it! If somebody makes a good Lance/Dragonite theme, I'll happily switch to that.

Also, my friend killed Mewtwo without Exploding. He just spammed Thunder, the first one paralyzed it, then Mewtwo couldn't move.
Now, THAT is just dumb luck. Thunder is inaccurate as hell, and Electrode doesn't have the greatest Special in the world.

Realistically, they probably could. Heck, a friend beat the Stadium Mewtwo with Electrode once.
That's actually doable. Electrode's guaranteed to outrun Mewtwo, so hit it with Thunder Wave on the first round, and if you survive the next attack, hit the trigger button. Even if Mewtwo survives, it'll be paralyzed and low on HP.

But for marketing reasons, to promote Mega Evolution, they made it necessary for a Mega to weaken Mewtwo.
Which is why a 100% faithful Gen 1 adaptation probably WASN'T the best place to promote Mega Charizard X. An animated trailer would've sufficed.

It's worth noting that the Mega Charizards are both stronger than the birds and Dragonite.
Only because they don't have Megas, too. Poor Dragonite is the only pre-Gen 5 Pseudo to not have one.

Yikes, so much yellow! Had to highlight to read anything!

(BTW, there's a PM that still needs to be answered. )

Regarding the birds... I think there's a bit of gameplay/story segregation here. Because, if Red caught the birds, they aren't as hot as we think, right? And he might not have a well-trained Dragonite with him either.
The special depicted Red completing his Pokédex by catching Mewtwo, so he HAD to have Dragonite and all the Birds. And, they, together, should be enough for Mewtwo, especially a wild one. (And, ESPECIALLY if we apply some gameplay/story segregation and bend the rules, which the special ALREADY DID by having Giovanni's Rhyhorn KO Red's Jolteon with Thunderbolt, among other things.)

Provided you've done a significant amount of research or development on the project and you're not just requesting someone else do the work, the Research & Development subforum is the right place. If you've not got started and want pointers on how to get started, the Beginner's Lounge is the place for you: either create a [Problem] thread detailing what you want to do, or post questions in the ASM & Disassembly Help Thread which is stickied. Good luck!

Red would suffer against the legendary birds themselves. And Dragonite still doesn't cut it.
Red clearly caught all of them since he completed his Pokédex, and Dragonite + all of the Birds together should be enough for Mewtwo.

The Hoenn leaders were in B2W2 despite the clash in artstyles.
Yeah, but you forget that B2W2 still used sprites. Their lack of modern artwork didn't matter because all we were going to see of them was a small sprite, anyways. All they needed were DS-quality sprites, and they were good to go.

Gen 6-onwards, on the other hand, is a different story. Sprites are gone and the official arts are now the VS portraits. The Gen 4 and 5 artwork is still good enough quality and a similar enough style to not clash with the Gen 6 art, but not so with Gen 3 and earlier.

Of course, you could argue that most of these "outdated" characters, like Kris, Green, Lorelei, Agatha, Juan, and the Frontier Brains will probably never appear in another game again, so it doesn't matter if they have modern artwork or not, but I can't see the likes of Red and Giovanni being left in the dust like that.

But the hero must win in the end. Mewtwo can take on a whole team of "normal" Pokémon, but a Mega is more on its level.

Actually, I think Mega Charizard X doesn't even defeat Mewtwo in Origins, it just weakens it enough for Red to catch it.
Well, they could've just had Red do what we all did and use the Master Ball. (Yeah, it would've been a little anti-climactic, but there were ways around that.) Plus, there were always the Legendary Birds and Dragonite.

The current style began in 4th gen, I think. May is very 4th gen-like in ORAS.
Yeah, it did. Big eyes, flat faces, loud colors, skinny legs, and everything. I actually prefer the style of the Gen 3 trainer art if you ask me.

Based on that, the following characters lack "modern" artwork: Kris, Red, Green, Giovanni, Lorelei, Agatha, Juan, and the Hoenn Frontier Brains. I wonder if they'll ever get updated? Since official arts are now VS sprites, not having "acceptable" artwork effectively prevents these characters from ever reappearing as battleable opponents.

They didn't shoehorn anything. The only situation Mega Charizard X appears in is in the Mewtwo fight. The rest of the series has no Mega Evolution references beyond Mr. Fuji giving Red the stone. And honestly, I liked this touch. It wouldn't be realistic if a plain Charizard fought and won against Mewtwo, especially since back then Mewtwo was so powerful it could take on entire teams by itself and win comfortably, even in gameplay.
But, Mewtwo being super-powerful and invincible WAS a part of the original Gen 1, like it or not. That's EXACTLY how the old games were, and if a 100% replica was what Origins was going for, then that's what you get. We didn't have access to Mega Charizard x back then, so neither should've Red.

That's a good point, but I also don't see much problem with it. The new art is far closer to the "current" Pokémon image and art style.
Technically, not anymore. There's a pretty big gulf between the Gen 3 and Gen 6 official art (hence the reason why the RS characters all got new artwork in ORAS). Heck, you could even argue that there was a noticeable gap between the Gen 3 and Gen 4 trainer art, comparing Erika's (the least-changed Kanto Gym Leader) FRLG art to HGSS art.

Of course, none of it should've really mattered, anyways, since Origins was drawn in a completely different style from the official art. And, it's not like there was any "consistency" of game designs there, anyways. Brock and Lance had their HGSS outfits, and Blue was in a completely new outfit.

Besides, there's already an animated Red based on the original artwork... He just happens to be called Ash Ketchum.
    Not since 2002.

Well, Bulbapedia is full of headcanons like that.
That's why it's a FAN site and not official.

"Small but significant" fits the bill here, don't you agree?
"Small" isn't exactly what I would use to describe shoehorning a 100% 6th Gen mechanic into an otherwise 100% faithful (right down to the black & white 8-bit text boxes) adaptation. Either be consistent and fully modernize Gen 1's story, or leave all of that stuff out. No cherry-picking.

They don't need to take everything from the originals. If anything, it was more consistent. I'm pretty sure there are characters in Origins who didn't have official art back in RBY.
Out of the major NPCs, only Lorelei, Bruno, and Agatha lacked official art (and technically, even they still had official art if you counted the Stadium mugshots, which were based on the game designs). Seeing as their characters barely existed in Origins to begin with, their lack of official art wasn't really a big deal.

If a 100% accurate RB adaptation is what you want, then, yes, you DO have to "take everything from the originals." You say that including the Sevii Islands would've "ruined" people's nostalgia, well, didn't the character designs already do a good enough job of that? Whenever I played Gen 1, Red always looked like this, not this. I did not grow up with FRLG, so elements from those games give me zero nostalgia. I know a lot of older fans also feel the same way.

Well... There are things in fandom we assume as canon because of the anime, like Lugia's relationship with the legendary birds.
Well, those people are wrong for calling that game canon, too. It's a great HEADCANON, since the games never established anything else otherwise, but no, it's not explicit canon.
