  • Since I'm working right now, I can see where my limited education will take me. If I was interested in a field that absolutely required a degree, then I would definitely go back to college, but writers just need patience and hard work, so that's what I'm going to do. Even though I dropped out of college, I still think it's tremendously important in today's society.
(: I'll be back online later, I just want to get some practice with some of the courses. Those races with you were actually the first races I ever did on the game hahaha.
    Ouch, good luck with that!

Yes, I can't agree more. I feel like if they tried a bit more with getting students to see the value of education, it would go a long way. I'm not talking about more videos or lectures, but some real stuff that will actually stick. My band teacher said he would like it if middle school students were forced to get a job instead of go to school, just so they could see how far their limited education would take them (not very far), and how much an education would help. I think that's a pretty good plan, since middle school students tend to lose their intelligence, haha.
That's okay, school takes way too much time, haha.

It sounds like you got a great deal, and that's always good. Let's just hope the professors actually use their textbooks a lot.

Every time I start a writing project, I think I must be the dumbest person alive, or a genius. I can't believe I actually want to go through the entire process again with all of its stressful glory.
And it's even worse of the class doesn't even use the textbook. I've had a class like that, and I sure as heck wasn't happy about it.

Maybe! It's always a possibility. And what the heck, the worst thing is that I never hear back, and that's not that bad.
That's business for you! Oh, and textbooks are some of the biggest rip offs the world has ever seen.

I hear that! Of course, I work full time now, so I feel productive most of the time. I might have found mine, but it's a race against time and all odds to see if it will even happen. I thought of a sequel to District 9 (since that movie really needs one), so I was thinking it would be pretty cool if I wrote out my idea and sent it to the director of the original one. With any luck, he'll like it.
It just doesn't make that much sense. I know money trumps the student's education, but this is a little extreme. I mean, you can actually get a degree in something while taking only a few classes on the subject, if any at all.

Most people don't think their life is that interesting. The majority of most people's life is pretty average, but the part I'm interested in is that golden gem that makes their life unique.
The only thing I would go to college for is writing, so I never got why I had to take all of these other classes. I mean, why on earth would I want to take math when my field isn't even close to using that. My counselor also told me that I wouldn't have the time to take any creative writing courses because I needed my general education requirements. It's like, what? They were going to give me a creative writing degree without me actually taking a creative writing course.

That sentence did make sense! I think it would be kind of cool to find out a lot of people's backstory and figure out what made them the person they are today. But, going up to people and asking for their entire life story is kind of creepy, so that's where books come in!
That's honestly why I dropped out of college. I felt like I was going there every day just wasting my time. I might have been doing a lot of work, but I was hardly learning a thing. Although, that first quarter was worth it. People were actually forced to participate and share ideas, so no one was really left behind. Plus, people were there because they signed up for it. That's where I feel like schools fall short. They don't realize that some kids just don't understand or enjoy certain subject. I can understand wanting a basic understanding of everything as fundamentals, but don't force them to sit through hour after hour of boring subjects as they slowly wither away on the inside.

It's also a little weird to think that everyone had their beginning. I kind of like looking into a crowd, and imagining the people there as they grew up. Every person has their story, and I think that's pretty great.
It made you think a lot. I went home just about every day with a head full of mush. But then I still had four hours of reading ahead of me, so I had to pull myself together. It was a lot of fun, and it gave me a new perspective on life, so I think it was worth it.

What's even weirder is that because of that one character changing, my main character lived. He was originally going to die at the end, so it was the difference between life and death. Think about that!
I know! School does a terrible job of that, and so does society. They teach that money equals happiness, when that's not necessarily so. For one of my quarters at college, I had a class called, "The Good Life". It was a mix of English 101, English 111, and Psychology 100. It was interesting because we delved into what made the good life. So many philosophers...

Totally! It was actually quite interesting. The only thing I changed initially was one character, and all of a sudden, the entire book changed along with it. The character wasn't even a major one too. It makes you wonder how different your life would be if one person was different.
That's why I'm doing writing! I think jobs people strive for shouldn't be the top ones that everyone seems to romanticize, but ones that you find fun. If you don't like getting up every day to go to work, then why would you work there? Of course, it has to pay the bills too, so that's where it gets tricky.

And that's where planning comes along! I spent about a year of an and off planning to get through my book idea. Of course, I abandoned my plan by the third chapter, but that's besides the point.
I know the feeling! For my short, little while in college, I actually started thinking about the essay topics like debates on PC, and they weren't so painful. Although, I did receive the critique that I was too conversational, but oh well. I like my style, and that is one person's opinion.

It's going to be a long road, but I think it's going to be fun. Maybe I'll even get a book published. Books are so much harder to write than short stories, that's what I've learned so far!
    Oh, no worries!

Well, it helps when you like writing. Not that I actually enjoyed all of those essays in school. When it comes to essays, I'll be the first to complain. There's nothing quite as painful as forced writing

Actually, I think they send a letter no matter what. I'm afraid the life of a writer is rejection with a few spots of glory, and there are very good writers that have never been accepted. So, if I get rejected, at least I'll be in good company.
Well, I just finished a twelve chapter book, so I'm taking a little break. It's not that good of a story, but it was my first writing project I took seriously, so it was more of a learning experience than anything.

As far as current projects go, I plan to finish my three short story ideas this month. One I already wrote out, but I want to polish it up the best I can and send it off to publishers. If I reach my goal, I could be receiving my first rejection letters by the beginning of next month!
Hey, at least that means you have persistence!

It's the only type of coffee I can drink. Even then, I still don't drink it. Ironic, isn't it?

I write whatever pops into my head that interests me. Although, that mainly seems to be science fiction. However, I don't do advanced technologies or space fights. Rather, I do more subtle stuff like aliens living on earth and people with powers. Although, I do have some ideas for more realism stories.
That's kind of like me! I wanted to be a mechanical engineer (roller coaster designer, to be more specific), but then I realized that I hate math with a passion, so then I dropped out to work on my writing.

Oh, I've been a barista for a few weeks now, so I'm used to just about everything now. And just so you know, a simpler order that would get you the same drink would be a double mocha frappaccino. That's basically like a coffee milkshake.
