Ok, got Emerald. I will post in the forum once the World Cup is done because I'm really hyped up for it at the minute. Is that okay?

Also noticed that there can be a bug with Emerald if the animations are disabled, but I've bookmarked that page in case anything goes wrong.

Made a little mistake with the last message.

I don't have a thread up for it yet, is there an area for ideas and stuff? I can fill in the details there. Also, Will have to grab Emerald, don't have it at the moment.

By detail, do you mean the story, and features, you mean? Also, it will be done on Ruby/Sapphire.

I came to Buddhism from atheism and my practice and beliefs are very secular, so it is just very difficult for me to take reincarnation seriously. It's not a given that reincarnation is out of the question, it's just that consciousness can be reasonably explained as a biological process without making a leap of faith.

Haha, yes! That's what makes it so exciting for me. Not only understanding the concepts but trying to breathe life into them and seeing how your perspective changes as you do, that is magical. I've become much more of an open person since setting myself on the path. I've found that I've gained insight into my own relationship, for example, by expecting less and observing more. Not to say that I could not have gained the insight without Buddhism, just that when you make the effort to clear your mind, this stuff comes a lot more readily. That's another thing I like about Buddhism. It doesn't claim to be the only way, it just claims to be helpful and invites people to see for themselves. One perspective being "right" doesn't mean that all others are wrong.

Nirvana is simply the state of mind once the ego and mental fetters are eliminated, isn't it? It's a liberation from suffering, but I don't take it to be a liberation of suffering (from countless previous lives and potentially countless future lives). Peace I get. A fully open mind I get. Releasing the shackles of negative thoughts and mental states I get. Supernatural things I don't really get. Nirvana in life is reasonable and worthwhile enough for me.

I knew that much. My practice is less ritualistic and isn't too concerned with more supernatural issues. But I find the bodhicitta to be just as important as everything else. I began insight meditation a few weeks back, and then started exploring the philosophy. Their propositions were valid and powerful and I have chosen to take and live a Buddhist perspective on life, which is much less restrictive than it sounds xD

I find reincarnation to be a process that's simply unverifiable with our current understanding of the world, so I won't endorse it. It has a pretty high bar as a claim to begin with. I don't take karma and rebirth so literally - karma as the interrelatedness of actions which makes bodhicitta so important, but not connected to a concept of rebirth. At least not one that counts discrete lives and talks about people having multiple lives, even though transmigration is supposedly impossible.

I don't know, to be honest. I take the position of the middle way and hold the three marks of existence. Nirvana is my goal, and experience and the way are my teachers. My practice is meditation and contemplation. I try my best to recognize things for what they are. I don't have much to be committed to, but to a clear and open mind, the understanding of all people and things, the shedding of my ego and compassion.

I think I have the fundamentals, and I know I have none of the rituals or traditions. There are many teachings in Buddhism, but I feel that the fundamentals can get me a long way. I judge all the other teachings I run into on the fundamentals anyways. And why do I place my "faith" in the fundamentals? Because I think it's a defendable position xD It doesn't say too much nor too little, it speaks for itself. It's only one perspective among many, but try to apply it to the world and you'll see it's a good one.

The "inside" practice, what goes on within your own head and the privacy of your own home is not only useful, but fun! Then there's reincarnation. Some interpretations don't use a "soul", but transfer of "mental energy", which is to say, a soul. I think that belief is hypocritical and don't put much stock in it. I find it a weak attempt to reconcile selflessness with life-after-death.
