  • Protip to help you out: Whenever you post, be sure to look at the date in the upper left-hand corner of the last post in the thread (above the person's name). If that date is more than a month ago (example: August of 2010), don't post in that thread. Not to mini-mod or anything, but that's one of the ways threads get locked in that forum (meaning no one can post in them afterwards), which means it's more of a hassle for the author to post because then they'd have to go talk to a mod to get it reopened. Also, sometimes, the authors of the fics you're reviewing aren't even on the forums anymore or worse, have no interest in continuing their past work because they just don't like it as much as their current stuff. So, you end up flooding the first page of the forum with threads that won't be updated while more current authors struggle to get reviews.

Beyond that, the people in the FF&W don't always like posts that just ask us when our next chapter will be coming out. Not to be rude or anything. I'm just saying that they appreciate it more if you told us a bit about what you liked. You know. Specifics. Maybe point out a character you thought was cool or a plot point you thought was pretty exciting. Readers who don't do that tend to sound like they haven't read the fic, and asking us when the next chapter is coming out tends to feel like you're pushing us to update. In other words, it's actually not as friendly as it sounds, even if you meant it with the best intentions.

(Also, trying to save you from ending up with an infraction or two 'cause you're new and probably don't know your way around the forum. I'd start by checking out this thread and follow it up with this one. That way, you won't run into any trouble, including getting on the bad side of the mods.)
