  • I couldn't help but notice your sig, and all I have to say is that although it doesn't matter as much how you spell things outside of fanfiction (although it's nice to be careful for the sole reason that people judge you based on the way you write on a board -- sad but true), when it comes to writing, yes, it's a bit important. In some cases, whether or not you spell something correctly can change the entire meaning of a sentence (such as in the case of discrete and discreet or to/two/too). Really, being as careful as possible when it comes to the way you use language (not just spelling but a lot of other things as well) is incredibly important in writing because that's the majority of what writing is. It's like having paint when you want to paint something. You need that paint in order to go out and put something on canvas. Likewise, language is the very basic foundation of writing. You need decent grammar and spelling if you want to write or else your story isn't going to come across to the reader the same way. In fact, your readers will be less likely to take you seriously if you aren't careful.

As I've said in my reviews, your fic is readable, but there's a lot of places where you can improve. You've said yourself that you're a beginner. Every beginner sucks. It's a fact. I sucked when I first started, the other reviewers sucked when they started -- you name it. However, we listened to the advice we're given and improved from our starting point, and that's something you'll have to do too. It takes time to be a good writer, and during that time, you just have to be open.

Also, you have to be careful. Proofreading is a step that every writer goes through before they post something, and that takes awhile too. Likewise, try getting a beta, or an experienced writer who will read over your work after you proofread it and make suggestions for last-minute changes before you post it.

    Hope that helps.
Well, next time if you see someone with an absence thread in NU/W, use the report button. ;D And thanks...
