  • Hey man, you got another follower from your IGN days. Just popped in to say I'm really fond of One Latias and I heard you were doing a rewrite for it. How's that coming along?
Coincidentally would you like to casually critique a very short (~450 words) story I wrote? It's from a creepy dream I had about a fox! The story could actually go longer (since the dream had more to it) but I can't figure out a way to connect all the events sensibly.
Yeah, the more I went back over the Eon Chronicles the more I realized how painfully flat all the characters are. It's mostly just a maturity thing, having seen and read a lot more stuff since I first started writing. I think MLP was actually a big inspiration for making my characters' personalities "pop" a bit more. I also watched Avatar: The Last Airbender about a year ago, which also handles character development really well. All of my characters are nearly unrecognizable now since I've made so many changes.

    1. Ren's a bit of a snob with a brilliant tactical mind (and possibly a bit of a drug problem)
    2. Kairn is now Nua, a streetwise clothier-turned-thief who applies concepts of tailoring to things it should never be applied to
    3. Latios is now named Chime, and has become a nervous, musical telempath
    4. Latias is now named Cay, and has become a lawful good barrier mage

Which is all well and good if I could actually write something.
Nice, I guess you're going for a PhD then? I'd like to go back to school but I'd also like to not be in debt, lol. We just bought a condo so we are officially ~$175,000 in the hole. Weee!

Writing is generally hit or miss for me these days. I have inspiration sometimes but I can't ever seem to write more than a couple hundred words before losing interest. I've been picking away at a rewrite of the Eon Chronicles, though that's pretty much on hold at the moment too. The Alola region fits the rewrite extremely well (sort of a pacific islandy thing), so I'm considering changing the setting to there which might finally get me motivated. Overall though, I'm having a hard time writing fanfiction these days because I feel like I should write original fiction, and I'm having a hard time writing original fiction because it requires so much more worldbuilding. Then I just don't feel like writing in general because what's in my head never comes out right on paper. There's a lot of visual metaphor and music (Latios is a musical character now) which is incredibly hard to convey through text. Still waiting for that direct brain upload technology, man!
By the way, I participated in a couple of pokemon TCG tournaments at comic con this year. They were actually pretty fun. We played a lot of kids and they had really good attitudes, which was a nice surprise considering how older players can get. I've got a write-up in the works that might be entertaining.
Yeah, work tends to have that effect. I've been seriously slacking on the EC rewrite mostly because I'm just tired and unmotivated after work, bluh. I've got a one-shot in the works about one of my characters though, so at least that's something.
Yo. Popped online for the first time in a while and saw that you've been around fairly recently. Where do you hang out online these days? It's been a while.
That was IGN Boards right? Anyway, you may or may not believe this , but I read from One Latias to Elements in about 3-4 days. And have you heard about Dr. Mack Foxx on Deviant Art and on Fanfiction.net? His stories (more like books, 100+ pages long) are called The Village Guardians chapter 1-4.

P.S. The stories are 100+ pages long when printed out.
The Kindle is nice to read one once you get use to it. I'm still in the process of getting use to it though (almost there). I finished OL yesterday afternoon, now I have time to do other things... like work on my story which I tired to do last night, but due to work injury I was wearing a wrist brace and typing was slow and painful. I got 220 words before I gave up.

I think I may have found a decent opening. The plot is ever changing currently. I've been thinking about this story since spring of 2008, and everything I start thinking about it again something in the plot changes. Did you have this problem? If so how did you get through it.

The thing I like about ff.net is the ability to refine searches, I can search for stories with certain Pokemon in them, with a certain about of words (eg 100K+) etc. I figured if the author has posted at least 50,000 words then the story has a good chance of being at least decent.
Well I finally finished that class... didn't do nearly as good as I wanted. I passed with a C, and that is the lowest grade I have ever received at College. While I'm glad to be done with that appalling class, I wish I had done better. It is my fault for falling behind, but the last lab was ridiculous. :/

Oh well, can't do anything about it now. I'm planning on Catching up on OL and any other fictions that I follow that are updated between now and when ever that occurs. Once I catch up I plan on re-writing my fiction. I still need to come up with an opening without it being too cheesy. I want to jump right into the plot, it's a little on the long side so the quicker I get to it the better. However I don't want it to seem rushed either. Uh the decisions....

The Kindle is awesome. I've already found my next textbook and started reading on it a few minutes a day just so I have chapter one (at least) done before the first day of class. The Kindle is much more portable than a text book, it's also a lot easier to hold than a text book too. I can easily slip that into my lunch box and take it to work and use my break / lunch time more productively.

I too like txteclipse's story, too bad it's only sitting on chapter 24. One of the hardest things to do as a reader of fan fiction is separating a good story from the demented delusions of some horny teen, or the fantasies of some twelve year old who has never heard of grammar before in his /her life. For that reason, and to make sure the story is actually going to go somewhere I tend not to start reading a story until it's been around for several months and received good reviews. I use reading fan fiction as an entertainment; I don't want to be bored while trying to entertain myself.

My first chapters where small too, I'm not sure how long the last chapter I posted was. It was decent in length though. I'm not sure if I'm going to post my new story on this site or not. I know I am going to post it on fanfiction.net though. Probably get more views there.

Well now that I've rambled on a little bit more than I should have on one of my pet peeves, I guess I'll leave you with some links to stories that are good, done/almost done, and the author still posts. Neither one of these stories include Latias or Latios, but they are still good reads. 460 words of my 1000 word quota are now done.
