lol if you define failure as the inability to perfectly anticipate the future state of the economy, then you have a pretty weak argument. If anything, deride the stimulus for the tax cuts it included that led to that mild positive effect.

What I ask of you is what your position is on future stimulus spending; do you consider future stimulus spending to be met with similarly mild growth as the recent one, or do you hold it to be the case that a "smarter" stimulus would result in really turning the economy around?

Hello there, it's been a while since we last spoke.

This article discusses 9 different studies that have been conducted about the recent stimulus, and I thought it might be an interesting read for you.

To respond to your assertion that the stimulus failed, I would say that the recent stimulus was more or less half-assed; the many tax cuts which were included in the stimulus have a low multiplier effect on the economy, and thus don't really make for a wise decision when considering stimulus spending.

It seems as though you are implying that we should not engage in any further stimulus spending. I would see this as a mistake, if your perception of the effectiveness of a stimulus were based upon only this more or less lame attempt to stimulate the economy.

Little tip. There is actually no rule saying that you have to discuss things in private. That's just one of their made up rules.

I don't give Bachmann kudos simply because not raising it at all would've been as bad a blow to the economy as a stalemate that extended beyond the deadline would've been, simply because Wall Street will use any excuse to panic.

Pawlenty was a flip-flopper who despite saying "no new taxes" and otherwise being "anti-tax" passed several "fees". There are a few issues in particular where he's flip-flopped when going from the Minnesota stage to the national stage, but I can't remember which ones. He also utilized state assistance money from the federal government to use a technicality to claim that Minnesota had a budget surplus when he left office, when in reality not all of the payments the state government here had to make for that fiscal year had been processed yet. He was a huge proponent of a state run racino to raise revenue for the state, but such a racino would have negatively impacted the outstate economies by reducing tourism drastically to some of the poorer areas of the state.

He also liberally slashed school and road maintenance funding. I35W's bridge near downtown Minneapolis collapsed in 2007, partially due to a lack of funding for proactive maintenance for it.

She'll probably want to push through a lot of her agendas regarding such social issues like gay marriage. Not sure of her exact stance, but her husband does run a "therapy" clinic for gays. I may not live in her district, but I do visit it often.

I live in Congressman Kline's District. Who I am displeased with as much as Bachmann.

I'm talking about the assertion of such things as "the stimulus failed" or "we don't have a revenue problem."

If it is reinforced enough, it will become ingrained in people and become considered a "fact" that can be used to construct an alternate interpretation of history and hence an alternate reality.

It's different from asserting one's opinion in a debate; when dealing with opinions, you can counter with facts and data which support your own opinion. What I'm talking about is that there is disagreement about what the facts of a situation are--that we never get to have a real debate.

The problem arises whenever one has a discussion with people who have become so misinformed by their media that they come to believe such things as "we don't have a revenue problem." And it's these sorts of false notions that I fear prevent us from having a real debate.

To debate a person, it is assumed that there exists a certain set of facts which are not disputed, but upon which the debate takes place.

With the advent of conservative media sources, however, a whole new set of "facts" has arisen, upon which one can construct their own reality.

I just feel like we live in alternate realities in which we cannot do anything but do battle upon what is and is not a fact, what is and is not reality. Therefore...

En garde! Come at me, then!

I'm not really being serious. I'm just lamenting the apparent futility of our situation.
