That's gonna be a tough one, but I guess I'll have to do something like the Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town. Since I have no idea as to what I'd do without stairs to climb the tower in the first place. >.<

Well if you need any help, I can yell at you too.
Oh yeah, I had totally forgotten there was a thread. And now I can finally replace those overworlds, now it won't be weird when an old guy is acting like a young woman. >.>

Honestly, I think it's just when you take a long break from hacking (like I did when I started playing Black 2) getting back into the groove is what makes it difficult. That, and everyone has their own social life that is hard to find time for to pump hours into modifying a ROM. Plus, the Unova games use a lot of advanced things that make it difficult for the GBA games to keep up with (ex: Dragonspiral Tower's stairs, many of the bridges and its use of the camera, and the 3-D cut scenes).

Heh, you sounded just like me. My only hacking skills were badly edited maps and creeping around the scripting threads to know how to do what. I think you'd do great as a hacker, and if you ever get discouraged, you can just look in a mirror and your reflection will yell at you.

Nah, I was just planning on getting some progress into the hack before getting back to you. I realize that while I won't be able to get everything exactly the same, it'd be such a shame to not finish what I started, and your slap of reality helped me realize it.

No it already is set to snow on the route, but that itself doesn't cause it to hail in battle. I think it would require some asm hacking, which I don't know how to do...

Probably because of GBA hacking being much more simple. The thing most people are actually afraid of (without even knowing it) is that z80 processor used with GameBoy/Color can't execute data from anywhere in the rom at the time. Game Boy Advance is nominally advanced version of Gameboy. The processor it has is so much more advanced that it can do stuff GameBoy/Color can't - also leading into rom hacking being so much easier with GBA games than those of GB/C.

That's pretty much it. Also GBA games have "better graphics", I guess...

    Told ya,
    Prism is good!

Actually, I'm quite familiar with everything Koolboyman has done there. I too have implemented several features that would have been impossible with the current scripting engine of the game only.

For example with battle enginge there; you may be controlling a different main character (similar hack to clothes and sprite color change in Prism) and depending on who you're controlling, the battle sprite and color of it are different.

You see that banner of Dark Energy in my signature; those two characters on the left can both be seen during a battle.

Basically, yes. Your hacks are yours to make. There is no universal opinion that decides what's good and what isn't so no hack is actually terrible.

My hack hasn't been posted here yet, I'll post it when I have significant progress.
I've actually tried to assemble a team here to work on a seperate project of mine: expanding 3rd generation's multiplayer capabilities. But no one volunteered so that's on hold.

If you think your hack is good, then that's enough. Make what you think is good, because you can't please everybody.

That's where I disagree. Positive reception is always nice but public opinion shouldn't dictate a hack. If I include something in my hack that is important to me, it doesn't matter if everyone bashes that decision. I'll still go through with it because I want to.

Sorry, I wasn't clear about the story based thing. I meant to say it's one of the few hacks I like because of the gameplay rather than story. I didn't mean the game itself isn't story based, I meant I liked it for reasons other than the story.

Also, I could be wrong, but I believe the mods allow hacks to be posted based on forum rules and the post's complience with regulations, not the hack itself. I don't think they'd reject posting a new hack based on their opinion of the hack itself.

Well there are Super Rising Thunder , Hyetology, and I can remember Alignment having some threads out there which felt pretty decent. But I guess that pretty much sums it, in my personal opinion at least.

Well yeah, that's partly true as well. It's almost impossible to make a graphically decent looking hack/game if you hadn't done any kind of mapping stuff before. Then again, it won't help one bit if all you do is stuck with creating simple events without trying anything new and challenging.

I didn't say Light Platinum was better than hacks with great stories. I meant it was one of my favorites that isn't story based. Like I said, my opinion doesn't reflect everyone else's opinion so I can't say why it's this popular. Your opinion is yours; if you don't like it, that's your opinion. We can't all agree to like the same thing.

One more thing: a reason you quit is because of people's opinions? I already said your hack is dedicated to you. Who cares about what people think? Make what you want to make.

You should try them someday. But really, the current version of Pokemon Prism is probably the best pokemon hack out there. Not because it's a hack of gen II but the fact that Koolboyman is an extremely skilled game programmer, no other content in the forum comes even close to the asm hacks Prism hacks, expect for Jambo's 649 patch I believe.

Most of the other hackers out here don't even have a simple idea of what they're actually doing; they're just messing around with tools trying to come up with something new. It sounds kind of rude to say it like that but it's the truth.

I don't quite remember what that was but it wasn't anything worth saying really so I planned, no I don't want others to see me talking like that so I went to delete it myself.

I guess it had something to do with that post of yours saying "I can't hack anymore but please me one more thing, do at least one hack worthy of playing or similar.".

Well, what I probably wrote here is that have you ever played Prism, or my Dark Energy? So yeah... totally pointless "****". But the truth is, those two are exceptionally good, and I'm not bluffing any way even though the other one is a hack of mine.
