Oh, man, it took me weeks to understand what I was doing wrong. But on an average seed it can take me anywhere between five minutes and an hour. xD Varies wildly.
Hey, Sorry it's taken like FOEVER, but I finally have your growlithe. It's not shiny, but that's just because RNG reporter can't seem to give me a shiny spread that actually turns out shiny.
x3 Yup, that'd be the reason. You're basically using your Elm responses to figure out which delay you're on, so if you don't get the responses you're looking for, just reset the clock and try again.
I'm not sure about getting the egg advancing 1 frame (I know it's supposed to advance them, but I'm not sure by how much) but as far as I know, calling Elm doesn't help advance the frame for getting a shiny egg. (That's actually something I've always wondered about too, since you use Elm to advance the frame to get Egg IVs. ^^" I've just always assumed it was some kind of difference in the way things were generated and figured I wouldn't understand it. x3)
I've always just gone with odd frames, since it was easy to just call and annoy Joey, but if you knew how many frames you advanced with collecting/rejecting eggs, I would think you might be able to do an even frame.
When it asks what your frame is, it means what was the frame for the seed you're using, I think. If RNG Reporter says the frame is 1, you don't need to make any extra calls after you've hit your seed. If your frame is something like 3 or 5, you need to call Youngster Joey to advance your frames a bit.
So, say you've hit your seed, and all your Elm responses were right, and you've got a frame of 5. When you start in the Daycare, you'll be on frame 1 (at least, I've always been on frame 1 in there) so then you need to advance 4 frames to get to frame 5, right? Calling Youngster Joey (the annoying Rattata guy) advances the frame by 2 each time. So, calling him once puts you at frame 3, twice lands you on frame 5, etc.
As long as you hit your seed and everything correctly, the only reason you shouldn't be able to get the shiny is if you weren't on the right frame, or if you were using international/non-international parents and had the box in RNG Reporter checked wrong, I think. Hopefully some of that helps? *Hasn't been to sleep yet* :P
RNGing needs the ability to now seconds. If you are one second off, it fails, I find.
And I'm probably going to be so rusty in RNGing that it will take me like the entire day to do just one.
Mine is 14 seconds and usually either 509/511. I end up hitting at least one of them most of the time, mainly when I'm trying to hit the other one. :P Getting used to the timing is the most frustrating part (though trying and failing to find a seed for something is kind of awful too. x3)
Like...say your target time is something like 18:01:14 (the seconds would be your usual seconds from start -> continue screen). You would start the game at 18:01:00, and then at 18:01:14, you'd press "continue" and actually get into the game. As soon as you were able, you'd open the Pokegear and call Professor Elm.
If you have trouble with the exact timing, you could try using PikaTimer. It's the main reason I didn't go crazy trying to get my timing right when I first started. x3
