Ultimately its the parent, but in my opinion, I do not care how many resources it takes if it can save one life. Life is priceless. The sad thing is, it is the parents that hook some of the kids up with alcohol. Its not like they sneak it. I think the kids got the cocaine from dealers, and any other drug if they abused it.

A girl who was throwing up and nearly passed out (definitely had alcohol poisoning) is in one of my classes, and she was saying how her dad didnt even care and actually helped her hide they fact that she went to the hospital and stuff. The parents are the ones that allow this to happen!

The sad thing is, those talks dont work. All of us have made up our minds if we will be doing drugs and alcohol or. Its really down to the parents to stop this. I guess its worth it if it does prevent a death.

True. They want to appear centrist, ignore social issues as much as they can and focus on economics. Trouble is if Labour can convince Australia that their economics are sound than metropolitan Australia will cast their ballot on social issues like gay marriage and gender equality, considering it a bonus.

There is a concept called the Overton Window, if public discourse is one sided and not challenged the general opinion can slide further in one direction, making those who were previously considered centrist look more extreme in the other direction.

No muk, Mike Baird the NSW premier is a staunch christian, Malcolm Turnbull was a successful lawyer and businessman who wouldn't have time for that stuff. Same with all the Nationals. Labour and the Greens (obviously) are the drivers of what I was referring to. Tanya Plibersek, Bill Shorten, Daniel Andrews (Vic PM) IDK if they believe that stuff personally but they certainly tow the party line.

My perception is that apart from a few liberal backbenchers making a fuss about the safe schools program and the occasional beleaguered conservative fighting 4v1 on Q&A the Liberals don't actually broadcast their own social position in opposition to the left. They remain quiet and even try to appear populist, i.e feminist, such as with that $100m domestic violence scheme. The money is basically nothing but they certainly want to distance themselves from the more conservative and rural National party.

Yea... I might give up. idk. I have bigger things to worry about at this point.

"Economics in One lesson" by Henry Hazlitt. Sorry, I thought the name was in the link lol. xD

The book basically dispels myths about economics (quite a few I actually believed in). Im on chapter 13 at the moment. I just looked in the table of contents and apparently it talks about minimum wage, which I didnt think it did (sort of what I get for just jumping straight into the book).

Chapter 4, 7, and 10 have been really good. But dont read anything without reading the first chapter because that is central to the book (I think you can skip around after that).

I sort of expected it lol. Now I have to figure out if I should try and hang out with her more (when you hang out with someone, they are more likely to like you), but I also have to consider if I would be being too pushy.

If you have time, read this (if the link doesnt work, I have another one):

I feel like my self before reading this was really stupid lol. It was pretty eye opening to be honest. Its easy to understand, short in length, easy to digest (short chapters), and a great book all around. It dispels a lot of myths right-wingers believe, but also left-wingers. For example, it destroys both sides on automation of jobs. It also challenges right-wingers on exports and imports, and again, both sides on the Broken Window Fallacy (which is the central theme of the book).

Im reading it to learn, but also to make sure I dont say something stupid lol.

sees minimum wage thread *sits back and eats popcorn*

I might actually input some statistics, but stay neutral. I am in general against minimum wage, except with inflation, corporations, uncompetitive industries (as caused by corporations or government intervention), taxation, etc. so basically I'm only anti-minimum wage under true market conditions. So I'm pro-minimum wage at the moment, but as for what it should be, idk. I think ill research the dollars/hour needed to live above the poverty line (close, but not at it). I think Ill calculate it about $5,000 above the current poverty line.

I find it hilarious when Republicans claim Walmart can't afford a higher minimum wage when they literally lobby to raise it lol. Of course, they might cut hours or employees, but you get the idea. Corporations, in general, CAN afford a minimum wage hike.

About Me

  • About gimmepie
    Quick Self-Introduction
I'm gimmepie. My actual name is Daniel but I generally don't use that much around the forums. Feel free to leave a VM.
I've been around PC for a few years now and honestly I love it here. PC's grown to be oddly special to me over my years of using it an escape from real life and I've met a lot of great people and wonderful friends here. On PC you can typically find me in the Roleplay Theatre, Daily, Round Table, PC's Dubtrack room or The Underground. I often pop up in the Treehouse, Forum Games, Battling and Team building, the Lab or on our battle server too though. Basically I'm all over the place.

Outside of PC I'm a competitive ballroom dancer and enjoy spending my time social dancing, training or teaching at the studio I attend. I'm also studying to achieve my Bachelor Degree of Education (Primary) and a Diploma of School Aged Education and Care whilst attempting to become a freelance writer. If there's anything else you want to know feel free to ask!

PC Supporter since 2014 (Currently Crystal Tier)
Moderator of the Roleplay Theatre since June 2015
Moderator of the Round Table since September 2015
Moderator of the Underground since January 2016
    Daily Staff since April 2016

Most RPs GM'd at once: Six (I'm pretty sure that's a record but I dunno).
My interests are pretty varied and they keep me sane when I'm supposed to be studying.

As I said before I teach at my local ballroom studio, I also train there myself as I am also a competitor. Dancing is one of the most important parts of my life.

I also love music, a very wide range of it too. I listen to everything from Rock to rap to country. My favourite band is Linkin Park but there are many other artists I love (far too many to list here so VM me if you're curious).

Pokemon has been a part of my life since I was about six. My first game was Pokemon Stadium for the N64 and I watched the anime religiously. These days I'm still in love with the franchise and I buy the main series games whenever they come out. I also sometimes battle on PCs Showdown server. These days I'm not as fond of the anime, but I haven't seen X/Y yet so I don't know.

I am a big lover of improvisational and stand-up comedy. I am arguably the biggest fan of Whose Line Is It Anyway in my country and I spend hours watching it and stand-up shows. I often consider giving stand-up a shot, but I struggle to be funny on cue and I don't have a very good stage presence.

I'm not much of a gamer, but I do enjoy a bit of gaming sometimes. My favourite game is The Last of Us but Starcraft 2 is a close second.

I am an anime lover and, unlike Western shows with which I am very picky about genre, I will watch almost any genre. My favourite anime of all time is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.

Review Aloo - Wandering Son

Welcome readers to what is apparently the first anime review in the Aloo series. I could have sworn I already reviewed Charlotte before but apparently not.

Anyway, I'm going to be completely honest here - at first I was not going to review this anime. It deals with issues that I have never experienced, never will experience, that I'm woefully under-educated about and that I am in no way qualified to comment on among other more familiar themes.

How We did

This was an interesting Olympics for a lot of nations and Australia is no exception to this. We didn't end up up doing as well in the medals department as we did back in London's 2012 Olympics but in many ways it felt like a greater success. By the same token however, we also had many enormous let downs.

The swimming events tend to be among Australia's strongest events, and in this Olympics we saw some great achievements. Our women's 4x100 Freestyle team

The Opening Ceremony

As the Olympics draw nearer to a close, I feel like sharing my thoughts on them a little with a sort of "mini-series". The Rio Olympics have been marred by controversy - something I'll talk about in another entry - but there have been plenty of high notes as well.

I think one of those high notes was the opening ceremony. Whilst the supposed theme of doing more with less was very obviously a necessity, not a choice, I think that the opening

Dance Derby Pie - Kyle Hanagami

So, for a while now I've had a bit of writers block when it comes to my blog, but from a moment of boredom and misery came an idea. I've been sick for ten months now and unable to do the thing that I love most - dance. It's given me a real appreciation for just how much I love the art form and the competitive sport in not only my own discipline (ballroom) but all of its varieties.

In particular, my favourite part of dance and where my

What kind of a non-gamer (or at least a person who isn't a hardcore gamer) gets onto Steam during a big sale and ends up spending around $70AU? What kind of ridiculous human being spends that much money on games when they still have a bunch of other Steam games they barely play or haven't touched and plenty of unfinished console games? The quick answer to that question is "me".

Yesterday, before spending hours watching the painful live coverage of
