Actually, that's totally one of the things I've been longing to do when I finished uni :D I really do want to write for my own sake, and if I don't have to split what little time I have between that writing and RP writing, perhaps I'll finally get closer to that dream <3

or perhaps I'll start posting in FFW again

    I'll look into it.

    In terms of movies, I would recommend this;

For sure, it adds the element of realism to any story if there's some kind of turmoil going down. I can't totally hate on happier stories though, quite a few of my favorites have really happy endings/scenes, but I think it's best to cover the board as far as emotions go.

I agree, the way that Ishiguro released the information sort of subtly throughout the book kept me engaged to know what the hell was really going on so it was definitely effective.

Oh man, they're my total weakness. I'm taking a British literature course right now and we're going to be reading Virginia Woolf soon, who I've never read before but my professor has mentioned how depressing her writing is. I feel really morbid to be this excited to read her works, considering her life story, but... I just feel like those stories have so much more heart than stories with a forced "happily ever after."

The concept was SO neat and I love how it was revealed really gradually throughout the course of the book, it actually made it sort of thriller/horror-ish in that regard. That book is so hard to pick a genre for, I mean it has romance, sci-fi, thriller, etc it's really quite unique.

I'm not complaining! I must be a masochist for depressing stories, they just strike a chord with me a lot more than less emotionally charged stories haha.

Oh my god, I felt like I was going to have an existential crisis when I finished it! It was one of those books where I felt it started off really weak but it picked up so quickly in the second half that I finished it with a good impression, but I do think it was pretty unbalanced overall. Still good, though!

I have a friend who highly recommend The Remains of the Day, and the plot for it seems pretty interesting and more relatable, but my friend said it's just as depressing so... that must be Ishiguro's niche lol :p

Ah yes, some TV shows have a level of influence.

But even then, it's ultimately up to them on who they become and how they act.

That reminds me of how people tried to censor rock in the 70's, which I believe is absolutely ludicrous.

The many hoards of sheep will do anything the government wants them to, no matter how blatantly dishonest the propaganda is.

You weren't allowed to watch Yu-Gi-Oh?

Did your parents consider it to be too dark, or was the rule made for religious reasons?

About Me

  • About Nolafus
Hello and welcome to my profile!

It's quite obvious at this point, but my main interest would have to be writing. I'm not the greatest, but I'm working hard to improve every day, and I hope that I can get a few things published in my lifetime. I mainly write light sci-fi pieces, but I'll get an idea for something else every once in a while. Despite this being a pokemon forum, I don't write much fanfiction. However, I do enjoy reading it from time to time. As far as reading/watching goes, I prefer sci-fi or horror.

Besides writing, I also enjoy watching movies, playing video games, and day dreaming. My top three movies would have to be District 9, How to Train Your Dragon, and Slumdog Millionaire in that order. I don't really have an organized list for video games, but Mass Effect and Skyrim are my top two. I like to competitively battle as well, so if you ever want a battle, let me know! I mainly play OU, but I make teams just for fun for just about any tier. I don't play video games too much anymore, but you'll occasionally find me on Rocket League.

I think that pretty much sums it up. If you have any questions about anything, or just want to chat, my inbox is always open!

I modded FF&W from November 8th, 2013, to March 12th, 2015, and really enjoyed it. I've been a super-moderator ever since the latter date, and I love being able to help PC in whichever way I can.
I also like roller coasters and I play the trumpet, french horn, mellophone (a french horn for marching band), and flugel.
    Lost in thought... again

M. Night Shyamalan brings us yet another horror flick, but this one is a little different.

I must admit, when I saw the trailer for this film I wasn't expecting much. Here comes yet another found footage horror film to throw into the pile, lost and forgotten with all of the other cheaply made films studios pump out for a quick buck. At least, that's what I thought until I did some more digging. M. Night Shyamalan actually made this movie with his own money....

This movie is gory, doesn't make sense, over the top, and mindless action. So why did I enjoy it?

I must say, I was really surprised by American Ultra. I went in expecting mindless action with really cheap comedy, and that's actually exactly what I got. But don't worry, there's a lot more to it. The very things I went in to see took a backseat to a story with a surprising amount of heart and characters that weren't drones for endless jokes. Don't get me...

If you thought the first Sinister was messed up, hold on to your sanity, because you haven't seen anything yet.

For the record, I thought the first movie was decent. It at least tried to break from the traditional hollywood jumpscare routine by giving us interesting-ish characters and a plot that wasn't bad. This movie is pretty much the same, only it cranks up the demonic factor to twelve, and doesn't hold anything...

With big blockbusters like Jurassic World, Minions, Ant-Man, and movies that people are cautiously waiting for like Fantastic 4 currently out in theaters, of course I went to see the psychological thriller no one has ever heard of. I actually didn't have any plans to go to the movies tonight, but hey, when someone offers a free ride somewhere, you take it. Well, unless they're offering candy. Now if someone really wanted to get people in their car, they'd offer free wifi instead of candy, and wow,...

It was my turn to decide which movie my family and I would go see, and it was between Ted 2 and Inside Out. Considering that the last comedy sequel I saw, Paul Blart 2, was a complete disaster, I decided to go with Inside Out. I hop in my truck, melt away on the drive over because of the summer heat, and arrive at the theatre cooked to a nice medium rare. My mom handed me my ticket (since family is also another word for free), and found our seats.

As I was sitting there, I noticed...
