You can, but you're likely to end up with some homo-lovin' fluff that way. :v My last short-story was Sleeping Beauty, but the Beauty kicked the Knight in the jaw, and ended with them praying together. :3

Dwarves seems to have the same basic characteristics throughout different genres, so if you see/read/hear one thing one them you can get a decent idea of their lore. You've never seen LoTR? -le gasp!- That is a right darn shame. Go. Get off now and go watch them. You are seriously missing out. No but honestly, they are good if you are into all of that medieval fantasy stuff. Even just a little. As you might (or might not...) be able to tell, I am a big LoTR fan.

Oh, no you're not. You seem to be able to write characters well, though I haven't had a chance to see a long-running story of yours, so I can't say how well you handle worldbuilding or longer plots. I struggle to write chaptered stories, personally, because I just...run out of Steam. And yus, making the characters dance for my amusement is one of my favorite aspects of it, too. >:3
