I'm trying my best to keep my emotions in check. After all, that's what the FAQ says you should do if you want to become a moderator. :D
Then again, I rarely see Manipulation "not let [his] feelings on a certain topic influence [his] judgment." But that's the thing. When you actually stop and think about it, Manipulation isn't a great moderator. I quote the FAQ again when I say that moderators are supposed to "be kind, helpful, and make smart, quality posts" but Manipulation is constantly making really rude posts to newbies. I want to reiterate that he's a nice guy if you get to know him but if you don't, he can be downright vicious. I've read some of his VM conversations with people that I personally try to avoid and he doesn't hold anything back. He doesn't like them and goes right ahead and tells them the blunt truth. I suppose honesty is another important trait that moderators should have but he doesn't go about telling the truth in the nicest manner.

Man, I don't even know what point I'm trying to make anymore. I feel like I'm ripping on Manipulation because I'm just jealous that he's everything I'm not. Maybe you're right. Maybe I'm fighting a losing battle. I think I need to stop focusing on Manipulation and instead focus on my own efforts to improve Emulation.

Well I'm sure that it was profound. :)

Are you saying I shouldn't get worked up over Manipulation and his antics or over not being chosen to be a moderator? I can tolerate the latter because, let's be honest, at the time that mods were being chosen I was never a serious candidate due to various reasons. Plus, I'm fairly certain that I pissed off one of the members of the H-Staff during my early days or something.

I suppose it's a good quote but it reminds me too much of the last sentence of the first paragraph in this comic (I think I showed the same one to you earlier) and I interpret that comic to be pessimistic.

I don't really understand what you're trying to say but thanks anyways. :D

Well, yeah. I knew that it didn't mean anything. But that rarely stops my subconscious from giving me false hope. And yes, Drew was only commenting on my signature. It really, really annoys me that (s)he didn't even continue that conversation after I responded. I tend to get really paranoid when people don't respond to my VMs. It's even worse in real life. Whenever I walk by a group of people who are laughing, I naturally assume that they're laughing at me. Especially when they look up at me while they're laughing. It doesn't exactly do wonders for my self esteem.

I think you're right. But I don't want to give up this far in. I think what has plagued me the most is that I get frustrated and give up hope. I'll occasionally take breaks now and then and it's often during these breaks that mods get chosen. I'm confident that if I just stick at it for a while, things will start to shape up. By the way, I'm not saying that I have to "replace" Manipulation as a mod or anything. I have nothing against him being a moderator. Gyah, I really want to continue with this but my dad's getting really mad at me because we're about to eat dinner. I'll be back later, promise.

    Aw... thanks. :3

Alright then. I'll just vent here instead.

So pretty much this all began on July 11th when Manipulation gave me my first ever warning. I was seriously POed by this and even more so when he entirely dismissed my argument which I spent a good deal of time crafting, saying, "I'm sorry but I don't see what else you're trying to say" despite the fact that I clearly stated my main issue with the warning more than once. Anyways, so I was really annoyed by that so I left PC for two weeks and used my family reunion in Arizona to get away from it all for a while. In the time that I've been back, I have completely overhauled my attitude toward the ROM Hacking forum. I have become an active member in both the Simple Questions and Script Help threads, regularly answering questions and clearing up common misconceptions for newbies. I also post a good deal in tutorials and the like, using my (not to sound conceited) reasonably large amount of ROM Hacking knowledge to answer questions people have. Not to mention quickly, too. For example, in this thread I posted an answer to a guy's question a mere three minutes after he asked it, and it was the correct one, too. This is because I've been keeping a close eye on Emulation since I got back from my hiatus. I spend a lot of time on PC, checking new posts and reporting a lot of the SPAM that clutters up Emulation. I often check back on the posts that I reported and I've found that the vast majority of them were either deleted or edited in some fashion. I guess my main point is that I've made an effort to improve the overall quality of the forum.
"Why?" you may ask. Well, the answer is because recently my attitude toward modship has shifted. It used to be that I was certain that if I were offered the position, I would turn it down, citing a busy school schedule and an unwillingness to deal with the stress. However, I've been slowly giving in to the temptations of being a moderator. The event that pushed me over the edge was waking up to find that I had four staff members in my "Recent Visitors" box on my profile. Sure, they were all moderators (i.e., not H-Staff) and two of them were Christos and Manipulation but upon seeing Drew and Serene Grace's names, I though "hm, that's odd. I don't remember looking at their profiles recently, meaning that they looked at mine without being provoked." It didn't help that Abnegation's username popped up to replace Christos' a day or two later.
Oh, I should mention that a couple days before returning to PC, I logged on to MSN and had a chat with Manipulation. I planned it out in advance and I basically told him that I was sorry for being such a jerk to him. Which was true. I was sorry. Whenever I'm talking to him in a VM conversation or on MSN he's a nice guy. It's just that when I see him responding to newbies on his profile or the nasty comments he types in when he deletes a post, I really, really don't like him. So I told him this and he forgave me and all was good. But lately, things haven't been so good. I've been doing my best to be nice to him and to ignore him when he's being a douche to newbies (which is quite often) and things were going OK until today.
In case you haven't heard, the PokéCommunity Get-Together is being planned at the moment and a couple days ago the thread came up for signing up for hosting events. Seeing that there was a Mapping competition lined up, I volunteered to host it. I was initially a little worried because Hiroshi Sotomura said that the host would be determined on a first-come-first-serve basis and I had been beaten to the punch by some guy and his friend who I hadn't even heard of. However, I waited it out and two days ago, Hiroshi posted again, this time saying that he would instead be basing it off of "certain qualities" and that it was very possible that someone could be denied a spot as a host even if they were first. Now, I thought this was a godsend because I'm reasonably well known as a decent mapper and I thought "maybe Hiroshi is giving himself the ability to turn down those other guys because they've never posted a map (I checked the Map Rating Threads in both ROM Hacking and Game Development) and give the position to someone more deserving." So I was feeling pretty good about that until this morning when I woke up and checked the thread to see that Manipulation had posted, claiming the Map-Off for himself and announcing that he had already chosen the judges as well.
As you can imagine, this made me very, very upset because Manipulation hosted it last year and I was hoping that I would get the chance to host it this year. Plus, I figured that if I did, it would show the H-Staff that I am capable of running something and maybe it would strengthen the argument for promoting me. But it seemed that this most recent event would shatter my hopes of that happening. However, I noticed that Manipulation's post said that he was signing up to be the "staff supervisor and judge" for the Map-Off. "Aha!" I thought. "Everything's going to be OK!" You see, every event needs not only a host (or multiple hosts) but also a staff supervisor as well. And the Map-Off specifically needs judges. Because of this, I thought that Manipulation was just signing up for that position and that I would still have a good chance at snagging the host position. So I typed up a message of my own, asking Hiroshi to confirm my suspicions that the position of host was still available. However, a little while later Manipulation posted, saying that he was going to be the host, the staff supervisor, and one of the judges, quickly and bluntly crushing any hopes I had of being an Event Organizer. Now, seeing how I have been trying to maintain my maturity since my return from my break, I decided that the best idea was to go straight to Manipulation and talk to him about it. I asked him to let me be the host because I claimed the position before him (hoping that he wouldn't pull the staff superiority card) or at least let me be a judge. But he shot down both of those options too.

And that brings us up to the present. Here I am, reporting posts, not ignoring newbies who ask me questions on my profile like almost every other staff member, trying to be mature and not let my feelings get the better of me, yet I still lose in the long run and to Manipulation, of course. I'm just really ticked off that I'm older than him, I've been around PC for longer than him, and (in my honest opinion) I'm more mature than him (just read some of his conversations with newbies/NarutoActor and you'll see what I mean) and yet he's the one who gets to host the Map-Off, he's the one who gets all the VMs, profile visits, and attention, and he's the one who gets to be the goddamn moderator. Add to that the fact that my best friend at school has pretty much officially left me for the cool clique and... well, it just gets very, very... frustrating. A while ago, my Biography on PC was set to "I'm the guy who came in second place" because it seemed like I was always good but never good enough ("always a bridesmaid, never a bride"). I have set it back to that now because it seems like that sentiment is going to haunt me for the rest of my days.

It's okay. I've been looking for a convenient way to wrap this conversation up anyways because dinner's going to be ready in a couple minutes and I hate leaving suddenly with a hasty "dinner, bbl".

It can be. And it doesn't help that my natural sleep schedule has shifted so that I'm regularly going to bed after 2:00 now. It's not so bad though. After all, that time happens to be smack dab in the middle of my "Interests time". :D

Yeah, I think we were discussing this earlier. Like, you've never been on a boat either (which is understandable given your location :D ) or a train. It's nothing all that great, to be honest. Plus, if you get stuck in front of a baby like I did coming home from Arizona a week ago, you'll wish you'll never have to fly again.

I still wouldn't be able to. It's just a mental block that I have to deal with. I can only fall asleep if it's completely dark, there's no noise around me, and if it's around the time that I usually fall asleep (which varies widely throughout the year). As you can imagine, this makes for very long plan rides. D:

Aw. Well good luck with the persuasion.
Ah, that makes sense. Lucky you. I can't fall asleep after I've woken up which makes napping impossible. :(
