Let's go hunt for the largest dinosaur EVER!

Geology is really interesting. And no, it's not really that boring to have every day. Well, sometimes it gets boring. Like every other class. Of course I get bored sometimes while having to hear this or that... It's not like every aspect is as interesting as another. Usually things involving Volcanic and Metamorphic situations are more interesting (and exciting) than sedimentary things. Just because an exploding volcano or moving a solid rock like it's clay, is way more exciting than a sand grain falling on another one... eventually forming a sand deposit.

Another plus side is that the geology is so diverse, and can be used at both LARGE (Earth) scale and small (microscopic). Faults, folds and many other structures that are typical for the formation of mountains etc, or even larger, during the subduction of the plates, can also be found under the microscope.

Which brings me to OPotCR. You get small slides (typically 30µm) of rocks and look at it under crossed polarized light to figure out the mineral assembly, which tell you a bit about how the rock was formed and many more.

You get images like the above, of which the left one also shows the lineage of the minerals due to strain put on the rock. The other one is volcanic (Hawaiian Basalt, no quartz, but lots of plagioklaze (the white and black striped ones))

Some classes really are a lot of work, but there are lots of fun things as well. Like the field trips, where you can go crazy with your hammer. XD or hunt for fossils. :3

I had a harder time staying awake with general classes like Maths, Physics, Chemistry than I have with Geology of Belgium, Paleontology, Optical Petrology of the Crystaline Rocks (gotta love the title XD) etc. :3
