Hey, I'm a semi-new hacker on PC. I can use a lot of basic tools, have done a bit of hex editing, and have had this question bugging me for a while, which I think you might be able to answer.
I noticed in your Blue hack "Pokémon Wood" that a Lotad sprite appeared in a few screenshots.
My question is, how do you edit the sprites of Pokémon in Pokémon Red/Blue?
I can edit text, Pokémon data, map layouts, and a couple of other small things with Hex Editing, but I can't do any major ASM hacking yet like you can. I was just wondering if there was some semi-easy way to edit Pokémon sprites?

    Hello Sawakita,

Im very new to the PokeCommunity, but not so new to rom hacking, although im no expert! I only have a few questions about the sprite decompression routine to do similar to what was done for Pokemon Brown. Ive read in a few different places that the best way to use nicer gold/silver sprites in red/blue for front and backsprites, would be to remove the sprite decompression routine and place the new sprites in blank space of the rom and have the sprites repointed to the new offset of the uncompressed sprite. But what/where is the sprite decompression routine exactly? And how can it be removed or ignored? Also, how exactly is an uncompressed sprite added to blank space? And how are the pointers changed to point to the new sprites? I understand hex editing fairly well, so i dont need any beginner things, which im sure you dont want to waste your time with, but i have only founded a few places talking about the sprite decompression routine and nothing talks about it in depth enough for me to understand what to do. Any sort of advice to help me understand would be soo appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read this! I've asked Coolboyman for help on this also, and he reffered me to this link: http://www.zophar.net/documents/z80.html but all of these documents haven't helped me understand gameboy language or anything about removing the sprite decompression routine. Any advice you can give me?

I agree. Doesn't matter how much evidence you provide, it just never enough. However when the government provides hardly any evidence at all, they're credible. It's hilarious.

I just wanted to say thanks again for helping me get started with GB/C hacking! I'm having a lot of fun with it. I've nearly completed the second city in the hack i'm working on! woohoo!

Would have been pointless to say in the thread as well but thanks also for the link to the GbAsmEdit. I downloaded RGBDS and No$Gmb before but got neither of them running properly.

Too bad I'm not able to study assembly in almost three weeks (thank you military service !) but when I'm back, I sure will
