I'm gaming aspect of it nowadays and even that is less intense than I once was. I played the TCG during the times of Base, Fossil, Jungle, etc. pretty much when WoTC still had it. Now I play MtG semi-competitively.

Hey, I saw you're located in Minneapolis, me too (well actually St. Paul cause that's where my dorm is). =)

Hey, yeah I know what you mean by being alone as as someone who solely collects, it's true that most have had their curiosity get the best of them and start playing as well. I'm really glad I did actually, I still collect like mad but it's quite fun to play too. I like how playing the game requires an even more in-depth knowledge of the cards than you would get just collecting. There are a few others out there who purely collect, but they tend to be very intense, buying the rarest Japanese cards and accumulating collections that value in the many thousands.
Out of curiosity, what about the game doesn't interest you as much? Are you into other tcg games at all, like Magic?

That's the way most are now, but there are more who just do it to play and don't even care about the older cards.

I suggest buying one of the theme decks to learn. They may not be the best-constructed, but they certainly can teach. And the Trainer Kits can teach you how even quicker. (b'-')b

TCTI stands for "The Count to Infinity". Mostly, it's like a general chit-chat thread with counting involved. It's in a section where posts don't count.

I learned a bunch about how sets are structured this week, thanks in large part to jennrummymeister (look him up on YouTube) and the good people here at PC (to whom the following may not be news, but I feel it would benefit the community to have this knowledge written down somewhere).

Specifically I'm referring to holographic cards. I started with these questions: "Which cards are available in several holo versions? Which versions are available? Is there a pattern to it or...

Updated the collection for Undaunted. Got some new cards off eBay. Sat for a while staring at my monitor wondering what it is going to cost me to complete this collection.

Sadly, collecting the rares is quite a bit more expensive than the C and U. I'm doing a good job keeping cost down, but over a 4100 card collection that will be over 40% rares, can it stay so low? Right now I'm running $0.31 a card across about 1300 cards. Definitely happy with that. However, most of those...

Collecting all these cards is going to be a long and winding road and I'm looking to get as much out of it as I can. Completing sets is an obvious goal. Completing single cards is equally plain. But I'm noticing other achievements as I go. I've found that making milestones by measuring the collection in different ways is a rewarding process.

"At least one card from all sets" is a nice early-going payoff that I reached in the last month. Incidentally this meant that...

:cer_love: What I love about collecting Pokemon... :cer_love:

There is a discrete universe of cards and everything in it is defined. The universe was there, created by others. I put limits on it according to my interest and called that set "my collection". So it's unique to me - at least a little bit, like a planet created from cards in Culdcept Saga. It's something wonderful that I helped create.

The collection is something that can be completed. All...

Got my collection plans formalized in a spreadsheet (thank you Pokepedia). Huge upgrade from the paper and pencil checklists I've been using. Tracking is built in by set and rolls up into completion progress for the collection.

Turns out the "limited" scope I defined is still quite large. Not paring anything else at this point, but it still comes out to 4,052 cards across 42 sets. I hadn't thought of the timeline of completing this until now (...details...). This could...
