Because you're the only one who posted (and I don't feel like replying to every single post in my hack thread which would make it look like a monologue), I might as well answer you here.

I'm glad you like the hack's appearance and I can assure you the gameplay won't be any worse than that - vice versa, I've added in major events that there are no screenshots of.
About the badges though, actually you won't receive a single badge in this hack
There are gym leaders though of which some must be defeated and others are optional. In total, it looks like there will be more than 8 gyms for now (4 in the beta 2) but I think there won't be as much as 16 because this hack isn't focusing on battling gym leaders and there won't be that many towns/cities in the full version.
Anyway, why won't you try out the hack now and tell me what you think about it later

It will take some time before I get Beta 3 up and I've really no idea when that day comes... -
