Okay, I can see your point about the HMs. I personally always have Flash and Defog when I need it, even after I have the whole area memorized. It's an aesthetic point. Then there's always the loss of accuracy in fog.

Texas is a cool place and all, but I'd like to settle somewhere out west once I'm ready to settle down. :P

...and yes, I teach HMs to my battlers. With the exception of Cut and Rock Smash (which stop being necessary halfway through the game) and Flash and Defog (which aren't even necessary at all if you know what you're doing), all the HMs are fairly powerful moves in their own right. Even Fly and Whirlpool have their tactical uses. :P

I played pokemon on the early generations. I was 11 when my parents first bought me Yellow. I played every game up to Crystal, then my Gameboy got stolen. So I didn't play for years, except on emulators. Now I have Black, White, Heartgold, and Platinum, and I am trying to find a working copy of Emerald that doesn't cost $200. (Yeah good luck.) I am probably unhealthily obsessed with pokemon as I spend several hours each day playing or doing something that pertains to pokemon.

I am currently playing through White following a challenge I made up. Here are the rules:
1. You have to use between 3 and 6 pokemon with the ability Pickup. They can be of any species. Trading is allowed.
2. For your remaining 3 pokemon slots, 1 of them must be your starter. The other must be the first Egg, Gift, or Fossil pokemon you recieve.
The third must be an HM slave, which you may not level. If using more Pickups, you can choose from among these. (Six pokemon are required for this challenge.)
3. If your Pickup pokemon would evolve, and lose Pickup, you may NOT evolve it.
4. You cannot buy any items, except for vitamins and TMs. All the other items you use must be acquired by Pickup.
5. Emulators are allowed, but do not use cheats.

6. Optional: You must level your Pickup pokemon in such a way that they are each 10 levels apart, and thus belong to different groups in terms of what items they get in the 4th and 5th generations.
7: Optional: You cannot catch any pokemon once you have your full Pickup team.

I will be following all the rules (except I won't use an emulator), and my Pickup team is 4 Lillipups. My starter is Oshawott, so my gift pokemon is Pansear.
