From the creators of Pokémon Platinum
We Proudly Present...
A New Way to Play Pokémon
Introducing Pokénnect; a Pokémon MMORPG!

About
Made In: PHP and AJAX (Fancy terms for: it will be an in-browser game)
Recent Updates: Currency Beta
What to Expect in Next Update:
Odyssi

How many times does a Pokémon fan wonder what it would be like to play with other
players at the same time? How cool would it be to adventure in a group, swap items with players you never met in your life, or play fun games, all immersed in a massive world?

Those dreams are soon about to be answered. Pokénnect, a Pokémon MMORPG, is about to bring all of that, and much, much more, to everyone, all over the world.

Pokénnect started out as a small, extra project by one of the more well known
Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal remakes, Project Platinum. Although a couple of
name changes referred to us as Pokémon Paradise and Pokémon MMORPG Project, we
finally settled on Pokénnect, combining Pokémon and Connect.

We strive for quality, which is why you will see nothing sub-par to Nintendo-Quality game standards. So, sit back, relax, and read all about the revolution in Pokémon Games!

Story

Starting out in your homeland region of Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, or Sinnoh, your parents decide it is time for you to become a Pokémon Trainer (or a Coordinator, if you choose that path later on). The professor of the region of Jurni and your parents choose for you to start your adventure there. She sends you a ticket for the boat and you are on your way.

Professor Holly, the region's professor (not to mention the youngest and the first female) asks you to visit her lab so you can get your first Pokémon and essentials. However, the villainous team of the game, Team Malum, seeks to steal some of her alternate Pokémon (colors, forms, etc) for research.

They invade her lab and pester her. When you arrive, you find three Pokémon sitting on the table (your generation is chosen by which homeland you are from). You take one and quickly rescue Holly. She thanks you and remarks on how well you battle. She hands you a Pokedex and asks if you want to name your starter.

Through your adventures in Jurni, Team Malum becomes more of a threat than previously thought of. More disappearances occur, and the atmosphere becomes suspicious. Throughout it all, you continue battling Gym Leaders and make it a goal to beat the Elite Four and the Pokémon League Trainer Tournament, all while figuring out why Team Malum is doing the horrible deeds it is doing. You constantly wonder, who is the Leader? Why won't he show his face?

You will face many, many side plots throughout your adventures, some taking you to the vast ends of the region. Through your adventures, however dark, scary, or sad, you will face tough challenges, whether people or Pokémon. You may even make a friend or two, who might be thousands of miles away from where you live!

Features

This game will be feature-rich in the end, and to post them all here would ruin all the suprises (not to mention be too much to read) so I'll just point out some of the most notable ones. More will be added later on.

MMORPG- First and foremost, we are a Pokémon MMORPG. MMORPG, otherwise known as an MMO, is a Massively-Multiplayer-Online-Role-Playing-Game. Say good bye to playing alone in a cold world full of boring, generic NPCs who say the same thing over and over. Most of the characters are other players, so you will never have the same experience twice.

Most of the standard features of an MMORPG are incorporated into this in one way or another.

Other players are represented by another trainer type. Hey wait! If you are a girl and want to be the equivalent of a guitarist, what do you do? Well, we included the option of being a singer, to go along with the music theme. What about a fisherman? Fisherwoman is already covered.

Trading items, Pokémon, etc, has never been easier. With a simple and intuitive trading system, you just click on the person that you want to trade with, click trade, and make your offer. The other person accepts or declines. If they accept, the transfer begins immediately.

Battling is also equally as easy. Click on who you want to battle, click battle, and wait for them to accept. Then prepare to make up a winning strategy!

You can also chat with other players. You can be far away from each other (either in real life or in the game world), and still chat. Who knows? You might make new friends, or a rival or two.

New Region- It gets boring after a while to play over and over again in the same region. Sure, there might be updated graphics, slightly modified routes and a new Pokémon added, but it just feels too similar. This was one of the first issues we got rid of.

Enter Jurni, a play on the word journey. Jurni is a massive land mass east of Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, and Hoenn. The region spans through beaches, grasslands, forests, swamps, jungles, mountains, deserts, snow, rivers, islands, you name it. These areas are spread across five quadrants, four slightly smaller than Sinnoh and one island section about the size of the Sevii islands.

Because this is an MMORPG, size is a must. Although the location icons are not enough to show just how large each area is, believe us when we say it; the game is massive. Towns are large, cities are monstrous, and routes stretch as far as the eye can see.

Details have not been left out. Many other MMORPGs skimp out on detail. A road, a Pokémon Center, a Mart, and a square water and grass patch are not enough to make you want to go out and explore. We include everything you would expect from an official game, and then some. Boulders, flowers, rivers, puddles, and mountains are not left out.

However, at the start of the game, you choose your homeland town (Either Vermillion City, Kanto, Olivine City, Johto, Slateport City, Hoenn, or Canalave City, Sinnoh) which you will be able to fully explore, which is a nice little addition to see how things have changed.

jurnimain.png

This is Jurni. Pretty big, right?
One thing to note is that the Pokemon World now has a Government! The largest city, in the south-east corner, is Monroeville, the home of the Pokennect HQ and the Government.

We also have an island quadrant, also known as the Treasure Archipelago.
This is expansion 1 of 2 of Jurni. It is accessible early in the game, but many places will still be locked. Upon Elite Four completion, most should be accessible.

islandyw6.png

As you can see, many islands are in this section. However, not only is this going to be an addition to Jurni, there are special qualities about it!

But I should tell you about that darker area of water...

During the night, a meteor came plummeting into the center of the lake. It created a huge basin. An endless (or, so it seems) waterfall in the center of the lake hold a secret- the DNA Pokemon Deoxys! How you can meet this rare Pokemon will be revealed as time goes by.

Plus, Pokemon have different sprites, whether differently colored or in a new form . We currently have some beta sprites of them, but they will improve soon.

Just note: we are going to do in the Poliwag line. So, pretend they are not there. xP

Villains- Although there are many villains you will face throughout the game, the one with the biggest threat is Team Malum. At first, they started as a small gang, but quickly grew into a threat to the whole entire Pokémon world. Not only do they have strong members at their commands, they also have tough Pokémon that are dangerous used in the manner that they treat them.

Malum is a play on words. Mal, which means bad, is a suitable name for them.

Operating under the control of King, the three Admins (Spider, Beast, and Eagle) run the team through King's orders. They are dreadfully hard to beat, so make sure that your Pokémon are always ready to fight!

However, who is the King? Is he really as strong as the member's claim he is? Why doesn't he show his face? You will have to stay tuned to find out.

admins.png

From Left to Right: Spider(Selena), Eagle(Aeron), Beast (Mikad)

Plots- Although a game where you can interact with other players in a massive world seems great at first, what about the plot? It would get quite boring after a while. We realized this problem and fixed it with ease. Although a starting plot will be given to you when you start the game, you can add on to that with tons of others. These all fall into the categories Quests, Missions, Events, Plots, and Regional Plots.

Quests are simple. Someone will ask you to do a favor, and it is up to you to help that person. A good example would be someone asking you to find their lost Pikachu in the woods next to the current town.

Missions are a bit more challenging. You are sent out by someone with higher authority to do a task. Sometimes it can be many steps, or just a single step. One of our current tasks involve Holly asking you to go and retrieve the ancient Shellos variation. Because she doesn't know where the island is, you may have to Surf around and find it yourself.

Events are more or less the same as the official games. A certain Pokémon will be available for a limited time, so it would be in your best interest to go and find out how to obtain it. Luckily for you, there is no place to go and no money to spend to obtain these Pokémon. Just find out where and what to do and go.

Plots are harder than the above, so you best be ready when you chose to accept them. Plots are large, detailed events that usually take about 1-5 days to complete. For example, a flood might be coming, so you have to evacuate a town before it strikes. Although that is the main task, you also have to figure out why the flood happened, and how to fix the probem. Rewards are usually great. However, failure to accomplish them might be severe.

Regional Plots are the largest of them all. Regional Plots are usually reserved for Legendaries, although exceptions will be made. Most of the time, they involve the whole entire game community banding together to accomplish the goal at hand, although you may have to go in solo. One of our near completed events involves Deoxys. During the night, a large meteor about the size of a tree crashes into the Treasure Archipelago's Orb Island, causing a massive basin within the center lake. Earthquakes plague the islands, and tsunamis spread as far as Hoenn. Why was there a meteor strike, and when will the effects stop? All these questions need to be answered to the public, and through it all, Deoxys will emerge to be the cause.

Trainer Type Bonuses- As cool as it sounds to be any type of trainer in the game, wait until you hear this; each trainer has a bonus quality about it. Hikers can travel up mountains that needs Rock Climb without the HM. Gardeners and Aroma Ladies berries grow twice as fast, or give off double the result. Rich Kids get a rise in how much money they get after battle. A jogger can sprint, which is faster than standard running, and Swimmers can swim across shallow waters (such as ponds). Of course, telling every detail about the bonuses will ruin the experience in the final game, so just keep checking back to find out some more!

Gyms- There are four gyms per Mainland Jurni quadrant, which means 16 gym leaders total. Wait, what about that extra type? Well, there will be a Pre-Gym, like Colosseum, but much less difficult. Although the type used will probably be Bug type, we haven't set this in stone.
Let's take a look at the first quadrant's Gym Leaders, shall we?

sakura.png

Sakura- Sakura is the first official Gym Leader you will face. She trains the Grass type, so fire and flying types should have no problem beating her team.

avionbx9.png

Avion- Although still a teenager, don't let your guard down. Avion packs a powerful punch with his Flying types. Be prepared to use an Electric or Rock type!

gabe.png

Gabriel- Gabriel is the third Gym Leader. He uses the Psychic type, and doesn't give up easily. Using your knowledge of Pokémon, which type will trump him?

hydra.png

Hydra- Hydra is the last Gym Leader faced in the first quadrant. She uses Water types, and is quite difficult for her looks. What is your strategy to beat her?

Currency System

Yes, we've got the currency system worked out. We would have a bureau de change in every town and city, and most villages. Pit stop towns, however, probably wont. They would all act slightly differently, some would charge, some would only offer certain currencies, or have a limit on how much can be exchanged. It's up to the clever player to figure out the best way to exchange their money. With the least expenditure, time and travel.

In addition, the currencies are counted as 4 counters, so when you lose, you lose a quarter of all of them, effectively losing a half, as usual. This way, you may get currency before you can use them, so just switch them back. There will also be banks for each type of currency, where you can store your money. To help explain, here's an example I put together. (And yes, the calculations are correct)

You wouldn't exchange all of your money, it'd be like having four different money counts.
When you lose a battle, you lose a quarter of all those amounts, effectively losing half your money.
When you win a battle, this quarter is transferred directly to your money count.

Example:
Player One has
1000 PokeDollars
250 Saffron
7000 Gildes
670 Odyssian Pounds.

Player Two has
2000 PokeDollars
3000 Saffron (RichRichRich)
8000 Gildes
9900 Odyssian Pounds.

Player Two wins. Player One loses a quarter of each type of money, so now it's
(1000x0.75) 750 PokeDollars
(250x0.75) 175 Saffron
(7000x0.75) 5250 Gildes
(670x0.75) 503 Odyssian Pounds

Player Two
(2000+250) 2250 PokeDollars
(3000+75) 3075 Saffron
(8000+1750) 9750 Gildes
(9900+167) 1067 Odyssian Pounds

In every city, there will be a bureau de change so that you can change your money over. However, not all of them will change into all the currencies, and some will have charges and so forth. It's up to the clever player to calculate which is the most efficient way of exchanging their currency.

Example:

Player One goes to Monroeville, and exchanges all of his money for Saffron. Because Monroeville is a big city, there is a 1500 Pokedollar Service charge.
He pays all 750 of his pokedollars, plus 1,850 of his Gildes (another 750 PokeDollars). He then converts the rest into Saffron.

0 Pokedollars
3400 Gildes
503 Odyssian Pounds.
175 Saffron.

This becomes
(3400 x 0.13) 442 Saffron
(503 x 0.6) 302 Saffron
175 Saffron

Which is a total of 919 Saffron.

Player Two goes to FrostPort, where they convert everything for free, and exchanges all of his money for Gildes. In FrostPort, however, they don't exchange Saffron. He exchanges the rest of his money.

(2250 x 2.5) 5625 Gildes
(1067x4.55) 4855 Gildes
9750 Gildes
3075 Saffron.

He then goes to nearby Ubel Town, where they exchange Saffron only, but for 500 Gildes, which is 200 Pokedollars. They exchange his 3075 Saffron to 172, 969 Gildes.
Giving him a grand total of 193,199 Gildes. (RichRichRichRich)

So Player 2 has been more clever, because he used the system cleverly so that he only had to spend 200 pokedollars, as opposed to the 1500 of Player 1. See?

Custom Graphics- Not only are we setting the standard for Pokémon games to come, we are also going above and beyond what many players expect.

At first we started out as a mixture of Diamond and Pearl trees and FireRed and LeafGreen overworlds, we quickly picked up our pace and eventually ripped a complete Diamond and Pearl tileset. Some time later, one of our members customized it and toned down the colors of some, changed tiles around and updated them to our high standards.

However, not only is the overworld custom, the interface is new as well. We took bits and pieces of other game's graphics and modified them the our needs. The result? A great looking interface that looks and feels natural.

Taking a look at the refreshed Pokemon Page. Looks spiffy, eh?

The new, updated Pokedex. In order: the selection page, general, area, cry and mating call (Mating Call makes a certain Pokemon more common), height and weight.

Hey, Look! It's Professor Holly! Not what you would expect for a Nintendo Game!

Heh, thanks everyone!

While I'm here, I might as well show you a preview of the battle system. Note; it hasn't been programmed yet, but it is a good idea of what to expect.

If you have a clever eye, you may notice that this uses an older interface than what was presented to you.

Unless there is a compelling reason for us not to, that is our goal!

Well, for the most part, when you are playing in the overworld, it will display the various menu options, but battles will show this.

Anyways, added Kanto starters as banners. Now all thats left is Hoenn and Johto!

Sorry, dunno that question. xD

I'm the head mapper, so I have no idea. However, you've seen places with online games do it, so it shouldn't be wickedly hard.

What I would expect in the final result is a webpage where you log in. It takes you to your blog/profile, and the option to play the game, which opens in a separate window.

Like the graphics. The D/P building sprites look like really clean rips. Loved the info in the first post. Really well planned. I wish all the best to this project.

Check my sig. for the link. We can't link anywhere on the forum but our sigs, so yeah.

The fourms are where all of our members contribute to the game.

Thanks Neo-Dragon! Love your project as well and wish the best of luck to you too!

Wow, this is one of the very few games I like, actually, it's one of the two games I like in this Forum.

Okay now, not making it long, keep up the good work! :)

One other thing, I don't know if you planned this or not, I suggest you don't put in new Pokemon because all they do is ruin the game, and really, I would feel bad if this game gets ruined :)

Haha, thanks!

And, no, there WILL NOT BE ANY NEW POKEMON in this game, however, there will be alternate forms of Pokemon, such as a Black Lucario, Shellos, and Tropical Themed Pokemon, which should be revealed sometime this week.

I would assume so. If not, we would be waiting years for the whole game to be finished. I'll have to take it up with the programmers.

At the time, a demo is in the works, but, everyone, please don't get your hopes up. We may not even release it.

Anyways, Avion has a sprite update!
