What if Pokemon was primarily a console series?

So, would you prefer it if main Pokemon games were on consoles only, and spin-offs were mainly handheld? What I mean is: instead of Red and Green being on the GameBoy, what if it was for the SNES instead? What advances do you think the series would have made at this point? What features would have been included? Discuss! :)
