Dangerous Letter Tainted with Ricin Intercepted at U.S. Capitol
News sites are reporting that an envelope sent to a U.S. Capitol off-site mail facility was tainted with Ricin, a toxic and deadly substance found in Castor beans. Apparently, a dose as small as a few grains of salt can kill someone. The letter was addressed to United States senator Roger Wicker.

Kinda suspicious given what occurred yesterday in Boston. What do you guys think?

Washington (CNN) -- An envelope that tested positive for the deadly poison ricin was intercepted Tuesday afternoon at the U.S. Capitol's off-site mail facility in Washington, congressional and law enforcement sources tell CNN.

After the envelope tested positive in a first routine test, it was retested two more times, each time coming up positive, the law enforcement source said. The package was then sent to a Maryland lab for further testing.

The envelope was addressed to a U.S. senator, though the sources would not say which one.
Ricin is a highly toxic substance derived from castor beans. As little as 500 micrograms -- an amount the size of the head of a pin -- can kill an adult. There is no specific test for exposure and no antidote once exposed.

It can be produced easily and cheaply, and authorities in several countries have investigated links between suspect extremists and ricin. But experts say it is more effective on individuals than as a weapon of mass destruction.

Ricin was used in the 1978 assassination of Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov. The author, who had defected nine years earlier, was jabbed by the tip of an umbrella while waiting for a bus in London and died four days later.

The letter appears to have been addressed to Republican Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi and was sent out of Tennessee.

Last I read though, the letter is still being tested due to high probability of false positives with Ricin. With that said though, apparently some Ricin-laced letters have been sent to Republican senators out of Tennessee before. Maybe its the same guy?

The timing... seems too soon for me to think its related in anyway to the bombings. With the Anthrax scare in the wake of 9/11, there was a week's difference. For any would be copy-cats to prey up the environment of fear from that moment, that was enough time to send something through the system. Here, not even a day. So, I say just a coincidence.

Coincidence or not, still not good.

EDIT: Lawmakers of all stripes in Washington received letters today

The news is saying that a letter was also sent to President Obama, but it didn't get anywhere near because of security measures in place for these kinds of things.

Supposedly the letters contained the message: "To see a wrong and not expose it, is to become a silent partner to its continuance."

Probably it's not related to the bombing since the letters would have had to be sent beforehand.
