it might be kinda hard, but you should try and edit in the special/physical move changes DP have to keep things constant
as for the pikachu following you, couldn't you just extend the charachter's sprites to each be two squares long and then make a pikachu behind him? it'd be weird with the turning but a lot simpler to do
